| WELCOME TO THE DISABILITY AWARENESS DAY SITE |
Disability Awarenness Day is an event held once a year by the Commission on Disability Issues for Anne Arundel County. Live entertainment! Family Fun! Interactive Exhibits! It will be held on Saturday august 26, 2006 1:00pm to 4:00 pm The Centre at Glen Burnie 6711 Ritchie Highway EVERY YEAR, SOMEONE IS RECOGNIZED AND HONORED FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE DISABLED COMMUNITY. AN AWARD IS PRESENTED TO THAT PERSON. THIS YEAR'S HONOREE IS **BRUCE MICHALEC** THE COUNTY EXECUTIVE PRESENTS AWARDS TO COMPANIES THAT ARE DISABILITY FRIENDLY EVERY YEAR. COMMISSION DEPARTMENT INFORMATION Dept. of Aging and Disabilities, Dept. of Recreation and Parks, Dept. of Education COMMITTEES Architecture & Accessibility HISTORY The Anne Arundel County Commission on Disability Issues was established in 1995 by Executive Order. The Commission promotes and enhances the quality of life for people with disabilities by advising the County Executive and the County Council on the coordination and development of government policies, programs, services and allocation of resources for people with disabilities and to propose the means whereby the needs of citizens with disabilities can be met. DISABITILY STATISTICS Disability Data prepared by Dr. Nollie P. Wood, Jr., Baltimore City, Mayor’s Commission on Disabilities, October 6, 2003, states that there are 1,485,429 individuals with disabilities in Maryland with 114,669 residing in Anne Arundel County. The County ranks 5th in individuals with disabilities. |
