The Anne Arundel County Commission on Disability Issues was established in 1995 by Executive Order. The Commission promotes and enhances the quality of life for people with disabilities by advising the County Executive and the County Council on the coordination and development of government policies, programs, services and allocation of resources for people with disabilities and to propose the means whereby the needs of citizens with disabilities can be met.
Disability Data prepared by Dr. Nollie P. Wood, Jr., Baltimore City, Mayor’s Commission on Disabilities, October 6, 2003, states that there are 1,485,429 individuals with disabilities in Maryland with 114,669 residing in Anne Arundel County. The County ranks 5th in individuals with disabilities.
