DS1 - The Dry Fish Project - Christmas 2001 This rare Dirty Sock release was a personal gift from Joe, producer/arranger/sole performer of the group Dry Fish Project. It was created for his family and friends to celebrate the yule-tide, and featured some classic Christmas favorites. |
DS2 - The Latchkey Kids - The Advertising World EP The Latchkey Kids are: Tim - bass/backing vocals; Joe - vocals/guitar; John - drums Track Listing: 1. Placing Blame (Goodman) 2. Torches (Latchkey Kids) 3. Advertising World (Latchkey Kids) 4. Russian Song (Kasprzyk) 5. Find Me in the River (Smith) All songs by the Latchkey Kids except for 1 and 5, written by Josh Goodman and Delirious?, respectively, and arranged by the L.K.K. Album produced by Joe. This album marks the beginning of a sucessful recording career for the Latchkey Kids.
The ironic aspect of it, however, was that it was never sold. It was simply given out to fans at the various concerts played by the band. Also, the album appeared in many forms with a different version of Placing Blame on some of the CDs, and what-not. Many times, the album was distributed only with a CD, and no liner notes or cover. Barring all these oddities, many fans came to know the Latchkey Kids by this release, and its five songs stand out as an important piece of Latchkey history.

DS3 - Descent - Let's Descend Into the Third Ring of Hell! Descent's current lineup features Tom on bass, Travis on guitar, Mikey on vocals, and Tim on drums, but this record features only Tom and Travis, with a different singer and drummer than currently in the band. This odd release features the roots of Descent in a quaint compact disc transferred from the original analogue master. Recorded live, it captures the essence of the band before they "made it big" and became well known to many people. Covers and original songs outline the band's early days with a singer and drummer that are not currently in the band.

Compiled to sell at the Mind's I show on March 29, this is another glimpse into the Latchkey Kids' progress as a band. The three new "studio" songs, show a tighter sound that is fuller and more enjoyable to listen to. Notable is "The Place that I Know," a fan favorite that shows the softer side of the Kids. "Torches" and "Advertising World" are recycled from their previous release, and there is also a special live track. DS5 - S.M.M. - Mace Face (CD single) Track List 1. Mace Face (Gallagher) Becki G. - Keyboards, Vocal Joe K. - Guitar, Drums Tom K. - Bass 2. Fortunate Son (Fogerty?) Becki G. - Keyboards Joe K. - Guitar, Vocal Tom K. - Bass Tim M. - Drums The only place where you can find S.M.M.'s explosive, catchy, rad hit "Mace Face" penned as an original song by the group's charismatic leader, Becki Gallagher, this CD stands out as the group's only Dirty Sock release. Their short, yet poignant and meaningful career was marked by this recording, which also features a b-side of the band covering C.C.R.'s Fortunate Son.

Joe's aunt Pam enjoying DS4, White Noise
It could be said that a final recording of a band is bitter, and through the recording you can hear the tension of the band. However, this recording captures S.M.M. at their highest point. "Mace Face" comes off brilliantly on the CD, with each part of the band's keyboards, guitar, bass, drums, and vocals coming together to form a well-constructed song. Literally during the recording of the single, Tim M. from Descent joined the band as he arrived after talking to Tom on a cell phone. He took over the sticks as Joe sang "Fortunate Son." Even though S.M.M. isn't around anymore, this one's worth a spin.

DS6 - Billy Likes Soda - The Snack Pack EP
Track List 1. Something to Say (Smith) 2. Jump (Smith) 3. The Subaru Song (Szwarc) 4. Cadillac (Mest) 5. Punk Rock Anthem (Smith) 6. Yeehaw (Billy Likes Soda) All songs written by Billy Likes Soda except for track 4 and the secret bonus song. Recorded over two days in June, 2002. Produced by Joe Kasprzyk The band is: Nerkum - Vocals, Slater - Guitar, Big Dumb Nick - Guitar, Chavez - Bass, Boner - Drums
The tasty sugar additive in Billy Likes Soda's punk rock debut, The Snack Pack EP, makes this album sweet as can be. Recorded with Joe in June, the band's sound is put on the disc with a tasty mix of Nick Salkeld's melodic vocals and the band's thumping punk rock songs. Smith and Slater's guitars work together beautifully, especially on the ballad "Punk Rock Anthem." The songs talk about different subjects, including your first car ("The Subaru Song") to telling a girl your true feelings ("Something to Say"). All in all, the Snack Pack EP is worth buying to listen to one of Butler's newest punk phenomenons playing their original material, plus a cover of a classic Mest tune.

All music written, arranged, and performed by Joe. The album was recorded digitally, and made with guitar and keyboards.
When in eighth or ninth grade, many people got an e-mail with a song entitled "The Grape Soda Song" enclosed in it. Such were the meek beginnings of the Dry Fish Project. A solo project by Joe of the Latchkey Kids and Billy Likes Soda, it began with silly songs made with a crude drum machine and funky keyboard riffs. The spirit of experimentation is still there, but the music has progressed with the release of Into an Immense Darkness. Inspired partially by the failed early 80's Bad Religion album, Into the Unknown, the album is a journey into the mind of Joe as he contemplates different aspects of life in general. Originally, it was thought that this album would be instrumental. It was actually built on the building blocks of "Blueberry Jam," "Long and Short," "Magnetic," and "The Polar Coordinate." The diverse sonic palette of those songs lead to vocal songs of just as much intensity and feeling. The album delves into many different genres, including the slow 3/4 time of "The Green Waltz," to the pounding harmonized metal guitars on "The Polar Coordinate," the instrumental, haunting orchestration on "Long and Short," and the disjointed pop anthem, "In the Rain," which was covered by fellow Dirty Sock band Better Half. The songs may lack the energy and group participation of a band, but this album has been an outlet for Joe to explore different areas in which he would not have been involved with a band. It is a testament to songwriting and the creative process, and is a worthwhile listen for anyone with an open mind.
