Backstage Pass

Ryan "Camel" Cuddihy: October 8, 2001

Along with my new staff colleagues (some of which haven't actually submitted anything yet, that's OK), I would like to welcome you all to the Dirtsheet. What you will see on these pages is much more structured than we did it in the past. We will have two (count 'em, two) main update dates: Monday and Friday. That's when most articles/editorials/insane ramblings will be posted. Important announcements, like before, will go up as soon as we recieve them... but of course, it's always up to me what constitutes an important announcement, right? Right.

So, before I get started, I'd like to do something that I'll probably do at the beginning of each Backstage Pass, depending on whether or not I get one of these each week (I probably will, I get messages for this all the time). It's fed pimpin' time! This week: Another Wrestling Federation. Aside from the interesting name, they've got a huge roster of undeveloped talent. A lot of them could be real good if they get the right training. I'm calling on the people in the NYSWF/EWA that happen to be reading this: be that trainer, guys. You know you want to.

And without further ado, the first NYSWF recap of the new Dirtsheet... and what a week it was. Three returns, a couple of upsets, and... Jack Adonis dressed as a hockey puck? All this and more as the NYSWF kicks off it's North of the Border tour.

~ ShadowHawk and the Darkling d. Andre Griffin and Cameron Jones. Jones and Griffin didn't really put much effort into this one. If I were Collins (which I'm not, and I thank God of that every day), some serious disciplinary action would be in order. After the match, a mystery man laid out Griffin and the Darkling with a baseball bat. And it wasn't me. Although I wish it was.

~ Shane Cornell d. Daric Fall. Shane Cornell's been really doing well as of late, let's hope he can keep it up... because he's shown quite a bit of promise on more than one occasion, only to duck out when the going got tough. After the match, Jason Phoenix laid both men out viciously with a skateboard and a steel chair.

~ Jon Storm and Evan Douglas ends in a no-contest. The men teamed up, and Douglas was officially a member of the Elite. Of course, that was short-lived, as Michael Draven made his return official on Evan Douglas' head. Not bad enough, he got creamed by the mystery man, too. The newest member of the Elite, or the human pinata? You decide.

~ The Star Senshi absolutely cream NYHC. I am deeply saddened by my proteges. I must kick their asses.

~ ICE d. Jason Phoenix for the NA-Core Title in the Main Event. And what a damn violent match that was... ICE coming out the winner, but not after a brutal trip to Waffle House, along with a few stops along the way. Personally, I can't see a better person to hold that NA-Core Title. After the match, Shane Cornell came out to do something or another, but he was quite interrupted by our mystery man... "Cold" Harding Cash! Cash is back in the NYSWF, and the fans are absolutely loving it, myself included. All in all, UAN was a good show, considering most of it was made up of guys who really don't have a reputation in the NYSWF right now. Good show from all of them.

SNH was also a great show, with the returning Cash starting a big feud (it's big for his opponent in it, anyway), and several other feuds just getting started, along with others getting even more heated. That, and Jack Adonis dressed as an ice block. Can it get any better?! You know what, don't answer that.

~ Harding Cash started the show by coming out and... what else? Insulting the gang in the back. It's what he does best, ya know... but someone wasn't quite as happy with it as the fans were: Shane Cornell. Yeah, I know, not the first person that would've come to mind in this kind of situation, but I'll be damned if he didn't rise to the occasion. Security had to break this one up. Like I said, Cornell's showing a lot of promise... but that's nothing new.

~ Lunatikk Crippler d. John Iley in a very close match. This one wasn't scheduled as a hardcore rules match, until Crippler handed out the challenge, and Iley accepted. It's a wonder neither of them came out with major injuries. Major props to John Iley for making this one a well-done hardcore match. If anyone really doubted Iley's venture into the hardcore circuit, this match disproved them. Well, everybody besides ICE, that is... who was there to give him some choice words. Iley charged after him, ICE whipped him backstage... and that's all we saw.

~ NOTHING d. Sean Boden via DQ, thanks to interference from Alexander Haven. Well, the only reason it got called on Boden was cuz Haven hit NOTHING first. Neither man came out without a Youth-ful beating. However... I'm really disappointed in Boden's work recently... he hasn't been quite up to par. I'd say Collins should also show some disciplinary action, but Boden'd hurt me. Haven continued his assault on NOTHING, naming what seems to be the first match for Hell Bent: NOTHING v. Haven, stipulations to be named later. He cut an interview backstage against Jon Storm... it did seem to be a bit egotistical, but par for the course for Alex Haven. He's challenged Jon Storm for his TV Title, a match that will happen next week on UAN.

~ Alex Haven and Shawn Hunter d. the Wanderers. A good tag team match from both sides. The Wanderers do have some work to do to get back to championship status, however.

~ Dubelicious is back. I'm sorry if I'm not rejoicing... never really been a Dubelicious fan myself, but we'll see if that changes in the coming weeks.

~ Kanyon d. Chip Masters. I'm a little upset. I like Chip. He's a good guy. Kanyon's a legend... his status ain't gonna change with a loss to Chip Masters. Masters has proven himself enough in the NYSWF, and he's got a small, but rabid fan following... let him succeed. And if that isn't enough, Collins... think of the money you made on Chip Masters merchandise when he was here last time. I've still got my Masters Degree, baby.

~ Chris Kage d. Grady Smith in the Main Event. WOW. This match was spectacular to say the least. Anyone who doubted Chris Kage ate their words with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy after this one. Chris Kage deserves his title without question... but will he keep it? Many people deserve titles... doesn't mean they keep them for very long. Here's hoping that Kage isn't one of them.

All in all, a good weekend from Collins In Charge. Most definitely up from the last time the Dirtsheet hit the newsstands. And the fun just don't stop! Shall we take a look at what Corey has in store for us next week? We shall!

On Up All Night from Winnipeg:

~ ShadowHawk takes on Shane Cornell to start the show. This week starts Cornell's real big test... if he can continue his wins, he could be a real contender real soon.

~ In tag team action, it's Jason Phoenix and Spyke against the Star Senshi. Spyke and Phoenix are not exactly the best of friends... this could prove to be dangerous.

~ The returning Dubelicious and Harding Cash take on the Wanderers. No offense to Cash and Dube, but I give this one to the Wanderers: Cash and Dube have never been the best of friends, and they're both going into their first match back in the NYSWF. Odds are on the established team.

~ The Main Event pits Alexander Haven against Jon Storm for the TV Title. The question is not when Alex will get his title back, but whether or not he will. Jon Storm is not the man he used to be... if Alex steps in underestimating him, he'll come out empty-handed.

And Sunday Night Heat:

~ Evan Douglas faces Sean Boden in non-title action. Boden better get back on the ball here... if you ask me, he has to beat Douglas to keep him at even close to Main Event status. On the same token, Douglas needs this just as bad to solidify him in the NYSWF.

~ NOTHING and Lunatikk Crippler take on NYHC. My boys have been off-track here... and this is not the best match to try to get back on track with. They'll lose gracefully. Man, now I'm depressed. I could join HATE!

~ Michael Draven and Grady Smith lock horns. I dunno which way to go with this one. I like both guys... hm. I'm stuck. I'll just have to watch.

~ The Love Machines reteam to go after the Allied Forces, Chip Masters and John Iley in the Main Event. Another tough match, but I'm behind Chip and Iley all the way. What can I say? I'm a mark.

Stay tuned to CBS this weekend. Or I'll kill you. Friday, I'll be here with a KOTR recap. You can find a preview of the EWA PPV right here. See you then.

Camel out.
