SS River Mitta - Official No.159586. 5,010t gross, 2,843t net, 8,431t deadweight.
Dimensions: 449ft 1in x 56ft 8ins x 24ft 7ins.

Built at H.M.A. Naval Dockyard in Melbourne, this vessel was one of the "A" class built to Plan No. RH 1/2. It was ordered 23/06/1941, keel laid 22/12/1942, launched 28/04/1945 and completed 05/11/1945.

All accomodation was amidships.
The deck machinery consisted of 12 - 5 ton derricks and 1 - 20 ton heavy derrick. Also 13 - 8x12 inch steam winches, including warping winch.
The propulsion machinery - built by the Commonwealth Government Marine Engine Works Melbourne - was the triple expansion steam type with an exhaust turbine fitted. Steam was suplied by 2 B&W water tube boilers. Giving an average service speed of 12 knots.

The Melbourne Steamship Co. Ltd. was appointed to operate the "River Mitta" until Oct.1947 when management was transferred to the Australian Shipping Board. During 1952 refrigerated cargo was removed and in Mar.1957 the vessel was transferred to the Australian National Line.

In July 1959, "River Mitta" was sold to Albert G.Sims Ltd, Australia, and registered in Hong Kong. Shortly after, ownership was transferred to Hang Fung Shipping & Trading Co. Ltd., Hong Kong. The vessel arrived at Osaka, Japan, during Sept.1959 for demolition by Sumitomo Shoji Kaisha K.K. and demolition began in Oct.1959 at Kawasaki.
