ENCAUSTIC IS...

Pictures are created with an iron and beeswax.  The wax is melted onto the iron which is set at about 70 degrees.  The iron is then smoothed over the card to create a layer of wax which adheres to it. The sides and tip of the iron are then used to provide fine detail.

THE WAX  is a mixture of beeswax combined with pigments and resins to avoid smoking and burning. It is lightfast and comes in a variety of colours.

THE IRON is made for the purpose and has a low temperature thermostat and drainage channels.  An ordinary domestic or travel iron can be used.

THE CARD has a polished surface which is slightly absorbent allowing the wax to adhere to it and not crack off. Other types of paper or card can be used to give different effects.
