To first answer this question first we must understand what she is. Neelahn is a forest nyphai, that is, a nyphai bonded to a forest. A forest nyphai is born with powers as well as restrictions. They cannot exist outside one hundred paces of the tree they are bonded to or they will begin to die. A nyphai's power of Treesong enables them to bond with the forest, making them stronger as they do.
The nyphai are a proud people and yet an odd occurence in nature. They are nt born in the human way, but grow from a tiny seed planted in a forest. They store their bodies inside the seeds and as they tree begins to root and seed, they do as well. Only women have been born to the nyphai.
Nyphai are know to have kept to themselves for hundreds of winters howeer eventually their greed took control of them. In the only remaining forest of the nyphai, dealings went on with dark mages who eventually destroyed their forest. All of the nyphai died except for one. Neelahn.
Neelahn's tree began to die and wither as the others had yet she did not die. An instrument maker named Rodricko used his skills as a carver to cut the heart of Neelahn's bonded spirit tree and carve it into an instrument.
This new lute gave her the ability to leave her forest home and travel the world for answers.
Now, on to the original question: who is Neelahn. Neelahn, as I stated before, is a forest nyphai who travels the world seeking answers to her questions. Why does she ave such questions? Neelahn was born with blue eyes, an abnormality among the nyphai. A nyphai's eyes were always the purest of violet, yet she was born with a deep blue. Her eyes were said to be cursed by the gods and make her a demon. Shunned by her own people, she lived alone without anyone to support her.
Yet, the nyphai's greed controlled them to their death and Neelahn still lived. If cursed by the gods, would she not have been the first to fall? She understands nothing of this and travels the world, seeking an answer. |
