| The most difficult repair I've done so far was fixing the centerboard. In 2002 I backed up under power with the centerboard down. It snagged on something, and the raising line broke. It wasn't until this year that I fixed it. The first thing I had to do was lift the boat up to get the centerboard out. I constructed wooden bunks, and used scissor jacks to slowly raise the boat up and put blocks under the bunks. It was a method developed by another Mac sailor, Paul Anderson. I did things pretty much the same as him, except I didn't use an aft bunk (since I wasn't getting on the boat back there) and I didn't quite get the exact angle on my midships bunk, but it worked fine anyway. |

| I didn't have to raise the boat very far to get the centerboard out. The hard part was removing the inspection plates inside the boat in order to be able to get at the nut that holds the centerboard on. I had a friend get underneath the boat to jiggle the centerboard while I removed the bolt. Once the centerboard was out, I saw the raising line had torn clean out of the board, leaving a gaping hole. | ||||||||||||||||||||
