My sound card was automatically detected and I could play the test sounds
out of the box with FC3. However, I had some problems in getting the sound
when I upgraded the kernel using Yum. I got it working by the workaround
described at http://www.cs.umd.edu/ nakamura/misc/t40_fc3.html. Basically
one has to do the following:
- Open a terminal window and run /usr/bin/alsamixer
- Use a right arrow key to move the focus to ``Headphone Jack Sense``
- Press `M' to mute it
- Do the same and mute ``Line Jack Sense'' too.
- Press the Esc key to exit
I had to install some xmms stuffs
(as there are some licensing problems with mp3 stuffs...I do not really
know what it is) to get my xmms work. But it works perfectly. I still have
some problems with my CD working...I can see the CD player working but I
can not hear any sound. I am still working on figuring it out. But I am
sure that it is not going to be a big problem.
