Symphonic Concerts at Alexandria I.C.C. ( 12 Concerts at the Great Hall ) In the last five years the Cairo Symphony Orchestra has established the so called Alexandria Concerts as a part of its obligations. Tchaikovsky: �Manfred� Symphony op. 58 Soloist: Mario Galeani, Piano Conductor: Ahmed Elsaedi Price Category C Mario Galeani The famous Italian pianist Mario Galeani finished his piano studies under Prof. Aldo Ciccolini at the Florence Conservatoire. In the last years Mr. Galeani undertook tours in Germany, Spain, Japan and Mexico. Several of his concerts have been recorded by inter - national TV stations. He has performed with many leading international orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic and Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin. Dvorak: Symphony No. 6 in D-major op. 60 Soloist: Mohamed Shams El-Din, Piano Conductor: Gardar Cortes Price Category C Mohamed Shams El-Din The 15-years-old young pianist already experienced international performances and awards. He won prizes at piano competitions among which the international piano competition of the Frederic Chopin association in Italy and the international Young Artist�s Competition in Japan. The recital he gave in Hungary in 1997 was recorded by Hungarian TV. He appeared as a soloist with the Cairo Conservatoire Orchestra. Gardar Cortes Maestro Cortes is the founder of the Icelandic Opera House and the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra. Presently he is serving as Icelandic Opera's director and main conductor. During his career he toured many opera houses and in 1994 he had the honor to conduct the ceremony which took place for the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Republic of Iceland. Sibelius: Symphony No. 2 in D-major op. 43 Soloist: Abdel-Hamid El-Shweikh, Violin Conductor: Enrique Batiz Price Category C Abdel-Hamid El-Shweikh El Shweikh began his violin studies at the age of five with his father. He has given several recitals in Egypt and Switzerland, and played as a soloist with the Cairo Symphony Orchestra. He is active in chamber music performances and some of his concerts were recorded for radio and TV. Enrique Batiz The musical talent of Maestro Enrique Batiz got obvious when he gave his first piano performance at the age of five. Nowadays he is probably one of the most important Latin American musicians. Conducting many orchestras he recorded several CDs. Some of these CDs were awarded international prizes. His reputation is not only based on his talent as conductor but also on his merits about music in Latin America. He is the founder of the Mexico Symphony Orchestra whose Principal Conductor he remained. His repertoire covers classic, romantic and contemporary works. Sunday 26 March 2000 8.00 p.m. M. Mahler: Symphony No. 4 Soloist: Don Wetzel, Piano Olga Bolgari, Soprano Conductor: Ahmed Elsaedi Price Category C Don Wetzel Don Wetzel received his first piano lessons at the age of five. In the following years he completed his studies in several prestigious institutions and received the doctoral degree in iano performance and historical musicology. He was granted several awards due to his outstanding talent. His tours regularly lead him to North America and Europe. Olga Bolgari The repertoire of young soprano Olga Bolgari includes roles in operas as well as recitals. During her career she toured different countries participating in several prestigious festivals in. Some of these performances were recorded live for TV and radio. Cherubini: Requiem for Male Choir and Orchestra Honved Male Choir (Budapest) Soloist: Victoria Kogan, Piano Conductor: Ahmed Elsaedi Price Category B Honved Male Choir The Honved Male Choir was founded in 1948 and consists nowadays of 42 men under the direction of Andras Toth. The choir devoted its work especially to Hungarian composers as Bartok or Liszt. The choir�s recording of Bartok�s work won the Grand Prix of the Charles Cross Recording Academy in Paris. The repertoire of the choir ranges from the Gregorianum to contemporary composers. The choir toured in the recent years many countries in Europe and America. Victoria Kogan At the age of five she started her first piano lessons. Her first public appearance on stage took place when she was eight, and since the age of thirteen she has been engaged in an intensive concert activity, touring the cities of Russia and foreign countries with solo concerts as well as with symphonic orchestras. In 1991 Victoria was awarded the 1st prize at Stravinsky International Competition for Young Musicians in the USA. Thursday 27 April 2000 8.00 p.m. L. Manchinelli: Cleopatra Overture W. A. Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 4 in F-minor op. 36 Soloist: Eric Terwilliger, Horn Conductor: Ahmed Elsaedi Price Category C Eric Terwilliger At the age of 10 Eric Terwilliger gave his first public performance. In 1976 he received his first international award for horn players. He toured Europe, USA, South America and Japan and performed as soloist together with prestigious orchestras throughout Europe. Since 1976 Eric Terwilliger is soloist at the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. According to his devotion to chamber music he is member of the Vienna Chamber Music Ensemble. Since 1994 he serves as professor at the Johannes-Gutenberg-University in Mainz/Germany. Thursday 25 May 2000 9.00 p.m. A. Gentile: Adagio for Strings No. 1 and 2 J. Ibert: Concerto for Flute and Orchestra J. Brahms: Symphony No. 1 in C-minor op. 67 Soloist: Ines Abdel Daiem, Flute Conductor: Giuseppe Lanzetta Price Category C Ines Abdel-Daim Ines Abdel-Daim was awarded many prizes in France and Japan. Recently she won the prize as Best Soloist from the Egyptian Ministry of Culture. Mrs. Abdel-Daim gave many concerts in Egypt, Europe, Japan and the USA. She also took part in many of the international musical festivals and represented Egypt in many competitions. Currently she is a soloist of the Cairo Symphony Orchestra and professor at the Cairo Conservatoire. Guiseppe Lanzetta Guiseppe Lanzetta is the music director of the Florence Chamber Orchestra. He is recognized as a conductor with a well-developed aptitude for interpreting of music of many periods and styles. His reputation brought him engagements to conduct the major Italian symphony orchestras. Lanzetta conducted in Europe, Mexico and the USA. During the 1990s he undertook several international tours with the Florence Chamber Orchestra. In addition to his position at the Florence Chamber Orchestra Maestro Lanzetta serves also as the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra in Messina. Shostakovitsh: Symphony No. 8 in C-minor op. 65 Soloist: Yekaterina Lebedeva, Piano Conductor: Mustafa Nagui Price Category C Yekaterina Lebedeva Yekaterina Lebedeva played piano in major festivals in Russia and Ukraine and was a soloist of the Kiev Chamber Orchestra. During her studies she toured Europe performing solo recitals and chamber music. Her repertoire includes works of a broad variety from Beethoven to Debussy.
