| In the popular anime series Urusei Yatsura, there are two particular characters that I'm really fond of because of their personalities and how well they go together despite how they get treated by the other characters. Shinobu Miyake, a bright eyed high school student, shows in the series her fluxuating personality. She can be the sweet caring heroine that everyone adores, or she can be your worst nightmare by using her superhuman strength (Very 'Project A-ko'~like, I wouldn't be suprised if Shinobu was the inspiration of that character), to hurl large everyday objects at you. She has a passion for helping people in trouble and cares deeply for her close friends and relatives. Like unlike the other female characters in the series, she goes through her share of men, all throwing her emotions away like so much cheap wine to further their perverse advances on the lovely Lum, the alien princess who "stole" her ex-boyfried Ataru. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Inaba-kun, or Inaba-san, as Shinobu addresses him, only shows up a few times in the anime series; the first time in the OAV "Inaba the Dream Maker" when he first meets Shinobu and for a few brief moments in the last UY movie 'Kanketsu Hen', as well as in the second OAV where he's buying himself and Shinobu ice cream.' Shinobu finds him laying in a trash heap when he asks for something to eat, and a carrot falls out of her grocery bag and he munches it up right away. When she first looked at him she thought he was so beautiful, but due to her past bad luck with men she assumed he was another jerk that just wanted to make a pass at her. He is a boy in a rabbit uniform that works for the 'Destiny Bureau' in a parallel universe. Some what of an apprentice or trainee, he is often bumbling with his job and gets into trouble with his superiors. The whole time he has a sweet, kind nature and has is very polite to everyone he meets. Inaba was probably the first and only character in the UY series to be well-mannered friendly in this way. | Taken from an interview with Rumiko Takahashi from the Shonen Sunday magazine when asked about her thoughts on Inaba-san, it stated: "Takahashi-sensei said during the final year when she was ending the series that she realized that Shinobu did not have a good guy to be with. She wanted to give Shinobu a good guy to be happy with as her goodbye gift to Shinobu. Takahashi had mentioned that Lum had forced her way between Ataru and Shinobu and that there were no good guys in Tomobiki town for Shinobu. (which I mentioned earlier they all were either insane or lusting over Lum), She recalled the story she had written where Lum traveled into the future and saw that Ataru had a son, Shinobu was the mother, and that would of course make Ataru and Shinobu married. This is a problem; to undo this episode, is where Inaba the Dream Maker comes in with the doors to the futures. The doors that were being destroyed at the end of the episode were also to destroy the future in which Ataru and Shinobu are married, while allowing Shinobu to find a good hearted guy in Inaba to be her boyfriend. So the answer to the question, is that Inaba is Shinobu's boyfriend in the end, a present to Shinobu from Takahashi-sensei." | |

| Chronicle of a Future Foretold is a fanfiction story I'm currently writing based on the two. It sort of has a dramatic twist to it rather than being zany or overy comedic like the original series. I will get into further detail about how exactly Inaba is being "used" by the Destiny Department Bureau in upcoming chapters. But for now there are only two chapters up.
