Justin had gone looking
for Pamela. He had decided that there was no time like the present to just get
the breakup over with. Pamela had disappeared to go change into her night
wear, but that had been at least a half an hour before and now he just wanted
to get it over with. So he had gone looking for her. He wasn’t sure where his
mother had put her but he had taken a guess and had walked into the room
directly across from his. And now because of his
mistake he was standing looking at a half naked Toria. He should have turned
around and left but he couldn’t bring himself to. He should have turned his eyes
away but he didn’t. She was…beautiful. Every curve and arch. The
length of her legs, the slope between her neck and shoulder. The way her hair
fell loosely over her shoulders…Shit, he was staring at her like an idiot. “Justin get out!” She said.
She didn’t scream but the underlined annoyance was evident. He looked down at the
floor and mumbled, “I’m sorry. I thought this was Pamela’s room.” He walked
out quickly, closing the door firmly behind him. Toria was trembling. Oh
God! As if the ridiculous crush she had on him wasn’t embarassing enough, now
he had seen her half naked. Thank God she still had her underwear on or he
would have seen more of her than she had let anyone see. She took off her
strapless bra, then quickly threw on the clothing Lynn had lent her. Going to
her bag, she found her brush and dragged it through her hair. What had he
been thinking when he had been staring at her like that? She felt her cheeks
go red as she thought about how his gaze had swept over her body. He must think
her extremely lacking especially when compared to Pamela who was curvy in all
the right places. She threw her brush on
top of her clothes and pulled it into a ponytail and decided to go wish her
mom a quick goodnight before going straight to bed so that she wouldn’t have
to face Justin. … Toria sat up in bed. She
had gone to see her mother and had come back to bed which had been a while
ago, but she couldn’t fall asleep. In fact, she was completely awake. She was also kind of
hungry. She hadn’t really been able to eat at dinner with Pamela there
watching her. She looked at the clock on the nightstand. It was a little
after midnight. She moved the covers and
got out of the bed. Moving quietly to the door, she opened it and peeked out.
Justin’s door was closed…and Pamela’s. She sighed in relief. At
least she would be able to grab a snack or something and watch a little tv
before she went back to bed. She closed the door
behind her and quietly made her way to the first floor. She walked into the
kitchen and walked to the cupboard. She felt a little bad looking over the
contents but she was hungry and grabbing something small wouldn’t hurt. She saw a couple boxes of
cereal and grabbed one. After pouring the contents into a small bowl, she put
the box away and left the kitchen. She turned her head and
noticed a lower level. She walked down the stairs and saw that there was only
one door. She was about to turn back but her curiosity overcame her. She
opened the door and walked into a moderately large room. She smiled as she noticed
that it was a music room of sorts. Comfy chairs were scattered around the
room. A guitar leaned against one of the walls and a piano was at the corner.
On the other side was a really nice stereo system and it had a record player.
There were shelfs of records and cds and Toria felt like she was a kid in a
candy store. She loved music almost as much as she loved fashion design. She placed her bowl on
one of the two small tables in the room and made her way to the shelf to see
what kind of music they held. She brushed her hands
over the records as she read the names. Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, Marvin
Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Beatles. So many different artists, so many
different musical genres. She was amazed at his diverse taste in music and…impressed. She took out a Stevie
Wonder album – Hotter Than July and put it on the record player. She
loved records, loved putting the needle down on the record. She put the music
on, grabbed her cereal bowl and made herself comfortable on the carpeted floor. … Justin walked down the
stairs and made for the kitchen. The talk with Pamela hadn’t gone how he had
planned. When he had finally found Pamela in one of the bathrooms – she had
been preparing for bed. She was wearing a skimpy top with boycut shorts. She
had looked good, he didn’t deny it but he just wasn’t interested anymore. He had tried to sit her
down and just break the news to her but she wouldn’t listen. After ten
minutes of trying to tell her the news with no headway, he finally decided
that he would have to do it tomorrow. He left her in the bathroom and went to
his room. After changing into a wifebeater and grey jogging pants he had
crawled into bed and closed his eyes. Minutes later, his door
had opened and he heard soft steps moving towards his bed. His matress
shifted as the person got into the bed and snuggled into his back. He turned
and made a face at Pamela, but her eyes were already closed and he didn’t
really care enough to tell her to find another bed. So, instead he had gotten
up and walked out of the room. He wasn’t tired anyway. He went to his fridge,
grabbed the milk and poured himself a tall glass of the beverage. He headed
towards the music room and suddenly stopped. He could hear the muted sounds
of music coming from the room and he wondered who was in there. Last time he
checked everyone was sleeping. He quietly opened the
door and looked in and there he saw the form of Victoria. He studied her while she
was unaware of his presence. She was lying on her stomach looking over one of
his records. Her dark hair was caught up in a loose ponytail. He noticed that
she was listening to Stevie Wonder and he smiled as Lately came on, it
was one of his favorite Stevie Wonder songs. “I guess, we both had the
same idea.” He said softly. Victoria turned her head
in surprise and pulled herself up in a sitting position. “Uh…yeah, I guess!” She
looked at him in surprise. He was leaning against the door frame of the room
with a glass of milk in one of his hands. He was wearing a wifebeather
and jogging pants and he looked so good. Why did he have to look so
good? She got up. “I’ll just
leave then.” He lifted his hand and
stopped her. “No, don’t! We can both stay.” He smiled at her and butterflies
fluttered in her stomach. She nodded and sat back
down. He walked into the room and sat in one of the chairs across from her.
“So you like Stevie Wonder?” He asked. “Love him,” she admitted.
“I’m into all that Motown stuff – a lot of oldies actually.” He nodded. “Me too. I
like the new stuff of course but I love that old sound.” “You have an amazing
collection here.” She said turning to face him completely. “You have pretty
good taste.” She smiled slightly. He raised a brow. “And
what? That surprises you?” “Maybe before I knew you,
I might have been surprised. But now…not at all. I guess, I’m more impressed
than surprised.” He tilted his head
sideways and looked at her seriously. “Well…thanks.” She nodded and turned
back to the record she was studying. He got up and walked over
to the shelf. “So, what do you want to listen to next?” He asked as the last
song on the record ended. She got up and stood
beside him. “Mmm. I was thinking something a little livelier, but I guess
it’s too late for that…” She looked at him and lifted her brows in a challenge. He smirked down at her.
“Never too late.” He browsed through his cd collection and took at a cd
without letting her look at it. He shoved it into the cd
player and pressed play. She laughed as Michael
Jackson’s Bad filled the room. “Good choice.” He winked at her and
settled himself down beside her on the floor. She looked over at him
and smiled and then looked down and frowned. She liked him more than was good
for her. She was going to get her heartbroken, he had a girlfriend and
besides he wasn’t interested in her like that. But she determined that
even though she had these feelings for him she wasn’t going to stop hanging
out with him. He was good company and she had fun with him. She glanced back at him
as he bopped his head to the song. He was having such a good time listening
to the music that she couldn’t help getting into it with him and by Smooth
Criminal they were up dancing and laughing at the other’s antics. … They had been listening
to music for the last hour and a half. Now they were onto Maxwell’s Now
and Victoria was starting to get tired. She was leaning on one of the chairs,
her eyes closed as she listened to the low seductive sound. Justin watched her and he
felt something in his chest go tight. She was really amazing. She was funny
and smart and fun to be around and beautiful. And he wanted to touch her. He walked over to where
she was sitting and took her hand. Her eyes opened and she smiled at him. “Dance with me.” He said
as the opening melodies of Silently began. Her eyes widened slightly
as he pulled her up and into his arms. The breath caught in her
throat, as his arms slipped around her waist and he pulled her close. He
rested his cheek against her hair and they were so close that she could feel
the strong beating of his heart. As they swayed she tilted
her head so she could look up at him and he lifted his head. His eyes were so
deep. He had the kind of eyes that you could drown in if you weren’t careful.
He brushed a strand of her hair off of her face and tucked it behind her ear
and her pulse accelerated. His breath fluttered against her forehead and
their eyes met and held. He smiled at her gently
and his head lowered. She was incapable of doing anything besides moving her head
towards his, her eyes dropped closed and she could feel his breath oh her
lips and then— “Justin! What is going on
here?” They both turned startled
to see Pamela standing in the doorway. |
