Lisa threw her overnight
bag on Victoria’s bedroom floor late Friday afternoon. “I have nothing hot to
wear tonight!” She frowned, as she hopped on Toria’s bed. “Lis, it’s a concert not
a runway. No one cares!” Toria said while she rummaged through her closet. “I care. I don’t want
Joey to see me in any old thing.” Toria turned around and
looked at Lisa as if she had lost her mind. “It’s not like Joey hasn’t seen you
before. And it doesn’t even matter because he’s not going to be able to
notice you out of the thousands of people that are going to be there.” She
turned back to her closet. “Tor, we have front row
seats. He’s going to see me!” “Whatever you say. Here!”
Toria threw a skirt at Lisa’s head. “Try that. I just made it!” Lisa looked at the cherry
red knee length skirt and smiled. “Oooh, this is nice!” Toria shook her head, but
couldn’t stay serious for long and finally smiled. “I am well aware of that.
Just go try it on and try it with the pheasant top over there.” She said
pointing to the shirt on her dresser. She turned back to the
closet to look for something to wear. Unlike Lisa, she didn’t care…ok, that
was a lie, she was pretending not to care. She would never admit aloud
that she wanted to look good at the concert; just in case Justin happened
to…she didn’t even know. She felt like a first
class idiot even considering dressing up on the off chance that Justin would
see her. It wasn’t as if he had paid that much attention to her when she had
been around him so it wouldn’t really matter. Even with these
conflicting arguments in her head, Toria couldn’t help but grab the rolled up
jean Capri’s and the pink halter she had bought, out of her closet. There was
nothing wrong in looking nice after all, right? *** “So it doesn’t make my
ass look fat?” Lisa asked, looking at her butt in Toria’s hallway mirror. “Uh, you’d actually have
to have an ass first to accomplish that.” Toria smirked and slipped on
her mules. “Oh cute, very
cute!” Lisa said sarcastically and turned away from the mirror. “Victoria!” Toria turned
to see her mom coming towards her. “Lynn just called about the dress you’re
making for her.” Mrs. Less. Toria smiled.
Her mother and Mrs. Less—Lynn had been getting pretty chummy in the last
couple of months. They chatted all the time now. They even went out for
coffee every now and then when they had time. “Yes what about the
dress?” She had finished it weeks ago. And she thought it was one of the best
things she’d ever made. She was much prouder of it than the outfits she had
made for Nsync, because she hadn’t gotten any help in creating and making it.
She felt very good about it. “She wanted to know if we
could bring the dress over Thursday evening. The award thing is Saturday
night, so she wants to get everything together.” “Bring the dress over
where? Her hotel?” “No we’re bringing it
over to her son’s house. The one who’s the country singer or whatever. She’s
inviting us for dinner. Isn’t she a sweetheart?” Her mom said smiling. Her mom looked so excited
that Toria could only smile back at her. She liked Mrs. Less and everything,
but a boring dinner on a Thursday night with her mom, her mom’s friend and
whoever else, wasn’t her idea of fun. “Yeah. That
sounds…great.” “So Thursday night then.
Now you girls go off and enjoy your concert.” Her mother smiled at both of
them, then walked away. “That dinner should be
fun and exciting,” Lisa said as they walked out of the house. “Oh, bite me!” Lisa laughed as they got
into her car. “You never know. It might be interesting. Maybe her son is
cute.” Toria shrugged.
“Whatever. He owns his own house, so he’s probably too old for me. I just
hope that the whole thing won’t take too long. I love my mom, but hanging
with her and her friends isn’t something I get a kick out of.” “Enough talk about that.
We’re going to be seeing the guys in concert very soon. Let’s get hyped up!”
Lisa shoved her NSA cd in the stereo and pulled out of the garage. They laughed and sang along
to Bye Bye Bye and It’s Gonna Be Me as they cruised down the
highway. Some guy driving by
turned his head to watch them as they sang along. Toria laughed as he looked
at them like they were insane. She sang to him and he smiled. She chuckled
when he waved as they exited the highway. When they got to the
venue, it took about ten minutes of searching before Lisa found a place to
park. They finally made their way inside and walked through the crowd. “Holy shit! Can you believe
this crowd?” Toria said loudly. Lisa smiled excitedly.
“Yeah! Isn’t it great?” She walked over to a
stand where they were selling Nsync memorabilia. “Ooh this is so cute,” she
said lifting a black and blue jersey with the aforementioned group’s name on
the front. “Ok, sixty dollars for a
jersey with Nsync’s name on it? You have got to be kidding me. Put it down!”
Toria grabbed the top and put it back on the table. She grabbed Lisa’s
shoulders and turned her away. “So where exactly are we going?” “First row. I’m sure
there will be signs to get there.” After showing their
tickets, they made their way into the arena and moved to find their seats. It
was early, the opening show hadn’t even started yet but there were already
thousands of people scattered around the area. They made their way down and
found their seats. Front row, facing center stage. They were amazing seats. Toria wondered about the
guy who had sent them to her. Justin. The irony of the fact that the man who
had also been involved in the car accident, had the same name as the man who
she was starting to have a disturbingly large crush on, was not lost on her. She thought about the
e-mail that she had sent him earlier that day, thanking him for the tickets
and the flowers. She felt slightly guilty that it had taken her so long to
say thank you but she had been busy and had forgotten all about it. She tried to picture him
but could only remember a blurred image of curly blond hair. Lisa elbowed
Toria at the side of her stomach, jerking Toria out of her thoughts. She
pointed to the stage. The opening act had just come on. They both made
themselves comfortable and got ready to enjoy the show. |
