I've started a SASL CG game to occupy me on my upcoming deployment to Afghanistan. I'm going to recreate (moderately faithfully) the activities of Baker Company, 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division (the Big Red One). The division landed at North Africa and helped in the campaign to destroy Rommel's army in Tunisia. In the summer of 1943, the division landed on Sicily and fought several significant actions, including at Gela fighting off a counterattack to secure the American beachhead. On D-Day, the Big Red One landed at Omaha Beach. As part of General Hodges First Army, the division fought its way across France, and in October captured Aachen, the first German city to fall to the Allies. After helping to reduce the Bulge, the Big Red One fought its way across Central Europe and ended the war in Czechoslovakia. The Big Red One truly distinguished itself as one of the hardest fighting, elite divisions of the Army.
