Diggin My Roots:

My Roots go very deep right where the Lord has placed me to live.  My husband and I are living on our great great grandfathers farm.  We dont have to walk far and there is his grave enclosed in a very old iron fence.  In tracing deeds we found where he owned at least 1000 acres and sold many of these acres or smaller farms to his sons.

I grew up in the home of my grandmother and the eyes of my great grandparents watched me from a large picture that hung on the wall in the living room or as they referred to it as the house.  My grandmother and her sisters always referred to the area we call the living room today as the house.  I have wondered if this saying was passed down when the kitchen was a separate room from the rest of the house.

When I married (the second time) I went four miles from where I was born and raised in an old log house.

My search began in the early 70s when my sister said she would like to trace our family back and learn the kind of people they were.  It was I, who went the next day to talk with an elderly cousin of my mothers.  Why did I choose the Rotruck family to begin tracing?  I think it had to do with wanting to know more about Thomas and Sarah Rebecca (Harris) Rotruck, the couple whose eyes watched me from the picture.

On my first visit I learned that my great grandfather, Thomas and my husbands great grandfather Abraham Jr. and my late first husbands great grandmother Margaret Rotruck Ferrebee were brothers and sister.  It was in visiting another elderly person that I learned that their father used to own the farm we now have and is buried there.  That began my search into the Rotruck family, which has led into many other families.

My Leatherman and Rotruck roots are intermingled together.  My Michael and Brafford roots seem to be not connected to each other or to the Rotrucks or Leatherman families.
