Good Old Boys
The
Good Old Boys were born in 1986 with guitarist Jan Palthe and drummer Erik
Meegens, because we had nothing else to do!
We
began in the local community centre but after three months ended up playing
all
over The Netherlands.
The
first change in this line-up came in February 1988 when Erik started his
own
company and had no time for the instability of a musical life.
We
recorded a farewell concert in February 1988 at the O.J.C. in Geldermalsen.
This
CD is only available on CDR because the original release was
sold
out very quickly, much to our delight.
After
that Wim van Zetten took Erik’s place and stayed with us ‘till October 1989.
In
February 1990 Jan and I started to work with Bert van de Watering
who
I knew from the time I was playing in one of The Netherlands first
Heavy
Metal band, Hellhound, back in 1981.
We
played a lot with this line-up but after eighteen months I wanted to do
something
different and I disconnect this line-up and started in
May
1991 another one, the Good Old Boys, with drummer Thomas Vermeulen
and guitarist Wilco van Beek who I knew from the time I was playing in
Hammerhead during which time he was a member of Captain Heartbeat.
The
first concert we played was recorded for a local radio station, where we were
together for three days and is still available on CDR as the “Broghum
tapes”.
We
gigged together until November 1992 and split after musical difficulties
between
Wilco and me. I started other bands, but that’s another story..
