ADVOCACY offers people the opportunity to take control over their own lives by enabling them to exercise choice based on their own needs and wishes and to have their views heard and respected.

INDEPENDENCE:
Dundee Independent Advocacy Support is an individual project which operates independently of any service provider and will maintain this position in all work undertaken.

OUR AIM
is to establish a high quality service for the city of Dundee by raising the awareness of the role advocacy can play in safeguarding the rights of people who may have learning disabilities or mental illness, or may have dementia or be frail and elderly.

The service is for people in these groups who are unable to act for themselves and have no one to act for them. These people will be considering entering or in residential, nursing home or hospital care or supported accommodation.

CONFIDENTIALITY:
It is important that confidentiality is maintained at all times. The Advocate will not discuss details about their partner with anyone else unless at the request of the partner, except that if the Advocate is concerned that a disclosure by their partner is of a serious nature and should be reported.
AN ADVOCATE:
  • enables people to be heard.
  • upholds and represents the interests of their partner as if they were their own.
  • always respects their partner's rights to privacy and confidentiality.
  • acts as an authorised representative.
  • ensures their partner has their place in society as a valued citizen.
