Welcome to the home page of "Tools For The On-line Student." Read the author's Story and take a look at her Resume. Introduction"Tools For The On-line Student" is a web page designed to introduce distance education on-line college students (especially for those who are majoring in Instructional Technology and other Education programs) and educators to useful and friendly educational software programs and resources that are commonly utilized by educators. This web page also introduces the on-line student to innovative and focused lesson designs including WebQuests and Backward Design. Because on-line learning environments encourage multi-layer learning experiences, this website introduces students and educators to the Constructivist Theory and other schools of thought such as HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills). The idea that distance education students are pining away at home working "alone" on assignments and projects, is no longer true with the advancement of on-line computer technologies. Distance education students are not always working alone, especially today when collaboration is made easy via the Internet. It is common for graduate and undergraduate students to interact with other classmates when group projects are required. Collaboration is made convenient on-line through such learning environments as Tapped-in where students and educators can even enjoy their own private office for meetings and collaboration at no charge. The most exciting aspect of Tapped-in is that it is an international on-line community where educational professionals meet and work together on various subjects and projects; take a look at the After School Discussion Calendar and see what discussions are planned for the month. For students and educators who need quick examples of lesson plans, syllabus, and of course evaluation formats such as rubrics, tests, and quizzes, "Tools For The On-line Student" has a collection of links to quick and easy tutorials and examples.
