Dear Friends and family:
Have I told you lately how incredible my younger sister Diana is?!? She recently signed up to run a Marathon (yes folks, that's 26 miles of running!!) to raise money to support a cure for Diabetes, which, as you know, both my boys Brandon and Dustin have been living with since 4/01 and 11/00 respectively. Brandon and Dustin are the light of my life and have handled their diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes with honor, education and responsibility beyond their short years. They are careful about the food that they eat and checking their blood sugar levels 4-6 times a day. When they get a cold now, it's not just a cold, but potentially deadly if their blood sugars go too low, which is common when a diabetic is sick. When they go to a birthday party, they can't just pig out on pizza and cake with abandon like the other kids. They have to think about how many slices they've had and how many carbohydrates they ate and how many units of insulin they must take to help their bodies process all that food.
My children are amazing and my younger sister is amazing for the love she has for them has encouraged her to dedicate herself to raising $5,000 and run 26 miles to find a cure!
Please help support her efforts in raising money to help find a cure so my boys can stop pricking their fingers for blood several times a day and so they don't have to stick needles into their little bodies every time they eat.
I have attached a link to Dianas Marathon page so you can read her fundraising letter and find out where to send your donations, see pictures, etc. You are also welcome to send donations directly to me (but made out to to American Diabetes Association). The Marathon will be in March 2003, so donations are welcome all year!
Thanks for your help in getting us closer to a cure for Diabetes!!! Me, Brandon, Dustin and Diana appreciate it!
Sincerely,
Kirsten (proud Mom of Brandon and Dustin and proud Sister to Diana!)
