Team History

The Attire

Maybe 50% of the 1997 Glendale Senators resigned with the club. The previous year taxed many members into going there separate way. In addition the team went back to a player/manager with Joe and Ken. At first, the team struggled and with so many new faces took time to gel into a solid unit. This was the only season we didn't make the playoff's. Ken Hulse played an important part while others such as Matt Sullivan and Dave Simmons also took on supporting coaching rolls. The rotation in the field was complex as most players took unusual rolls on the mound, at first or anywhere needed they normally didn't play. The chaos from the 1997 season obviously spilled into this one. The team finished the season about .500 but with out regular positions and faces it was difficult to get through. However, this was a learning experience that made the team become a more solid and effective unit for years to come. But the big question remains from 1997, who the hell picked the name Senators anyway?
