Nearly 500,000 have been killed at the hands of their own government. Over 2.5 million have been displaced. The tragedy is so great, the situation seems hopeless. However, tragedy and hopelessness aren't necessarily synonymous. There is much we can do, as citizens of the United States, to end this genocide. Much of the fight to get the United States to take action to end the genocide in Darfur has been endlessly delayed by unresponsive politicians. Now, however, John McCain, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama are eager to win your vote for President-- and thus more likely to listen to your concerns.
Let the candidates know that you want to elect a President who will be proactive in approach to the Sudan; your vote depends on it. By making Darfur a topic of conversation in the election, you ensure that our next President knows he or she must take action to end genocide.
