| Scabies: Letter to Health Department | |||||||||||||||||
| Good Afternoon;
I would like to write you in regards to information on Scabies and it's resurgence. I live in the city, where almost all of my peers have had this, or still have this parasite. After being improperly diagnosed at least 12 times and given everything from Acutane to Doxycycline, allergy medicines and treatments for dermatitis, fungus, and eczema, it's been discovered that what I've had is scabies for more than 2 years which of course got progressively worse from not being treated. In addition, I had infected everyone else around me, who are now also being misdiagnosed with acne, eczema, dermatitis, insect bites, fungus, allergies, etc., etc., When first given the treatment for Scabies, I was told to put the cream from my neck down. Which I repeated in 7 days. I laundered or dry-cleaned everything I owned in very hot water. This seemed to work somewhat, temporarily, however most of the pimple-like bumps seemed to be on my face, scalp, and neck, behind the ears, shoulders and chest area. (This is most common amongst my peers also.) Only after a trip to Brazil, where I was given a head to toe (including face, neck, ears, and scalp) treatment of Permethrin 5% combined with 12mg of oral ivermectin, my skin finally cleared up and the itching is gone. Now, I've returned to the United States where there seems to be hundreds of people suffering with these same symptoms and being either improperly diagnosed or mis-informed about treatment procedures. I have read that Ivermectin is not yet FDA approved in the USA for the treatment of Scabies, or Permethrin-resistant scabies, however, it's widely used and available without a prescription in Brazil, Argentina, Canada, Mexico, Peru, Australia, India. It is first line treatment recommendation by the government Health Care System of Japan. Is it possible that you may also speak to more people, clinics, doctors, etc., and update a current report on treatments of scabies to medical facilities so that people may be better informed on how to treat this? It would be wonderful to not have to worry about getting this over and over again from people who are still infected, since it is so easily contracted, and highly contagious. Putting the medicine only from the neck down and not including the head or face does not seem to work, thus rendering the treatment useless. This information has not been updated since the 1980's and I believe it to be definitely epidemic, especially in the metropolitan areas. It would also be helpful to inform facial places, spas, massage, tanning salons, hairdressers, and other places which may use towels, or robes not washed in very hot water/bleach afterward? With Many Kind Thanks, and I sincerely hope this helps someone. |
