Prime Minister Sharon's response to the Hamas inspired acts of outrage is to take over Orient House in perpetuity and, as happened yesterday, to send in tanks and armored bulldozers into Jenin to destroy Palestinian police posts. I was thinking of writing something on how the Israeli support for Hamas--after all Israel created Hamas during the period when the PLO was winning all the elections in the West Bank in the 1970's--provides them an excuse for attacking the civilian leadership of the Palestinians.
Also, yesterday, I noticed a new book which is a collection of George Mendenhall's talks, and takes a more scientific approach to archaeology in Palestine than is coming out of US and Israeli academics. Mendenhall however, does give some credence to the "Peoples of the Sea" theory on the origins of the Palestinian people, which I think is wrong.
Must leaf through the book more carefully.
