About a two miles south of Uhlerstown, the canal and towpath no longer follow the river. It goes inland and is seperated from the river and the road by farms. Cyclists have to get from the path to Rt. 32 in order to cross the river to Frenchtown, NJ for a return trip of the Delaware and Raritan Feeder Canal. The last place to get out to Rt. 32 on a public way is marked by a sign shortly after the canal goes inland at Tinicum Park. People who turn off here will miss a nice trip along the last mile to the Uhlerstown covered bridge shown here. It is worth doing this last section and then turning back to go out to the road or to follow directions given by Friends of the Delaware Canal. Near the covered bridge there is an old lock and beyond here the canal is dry. The wide smooth path here becomes a narrow single track. Using directions in the link above, continue on the track about a mile to Jugtown Hill Rd. and turn right on Jugtown Hill Rd to Rt. 32 then south to the Frenchtown Bridge. At the time we rode it was possible to get bicycles across the dry canal to Old Canal Lane which went to the covered bridge.
