::BIOGRAPHY::
Michael Diamond was born into a wealthy, Jewish family with two older brothers. His father was a specialized art vendor and his mother was a designer. During his childhood, Mike lived in the Upper West side, in what we call the "ghetto". At the age of 16, his father died. Mike is the founder of the Beastie Boys. In 1981, the young orange haired drummer got together with John Berry, Kate Schellenback and Adam Yauch to form the band. When John Berry quit, Adam Horovitz from the "Young and the Useless" joined. After Kate quit, the boys got into the rap scene. They were picked up by Def Jam, and the rest is Beastie history. While MCA is the spiritual leader, and Adrock the music man, Mike D is considered the entrepreneur of the group. In 1992, he had an idea to make his own record label for Kate Schellenback's "Lucious Jackson". After Capitol approved of his idea, Grand Royal was born. That wasn't the end of Mike's projects, Mike also decided to start a clothing store, X-Large. The store feature Hip Hop style clothes and stickers but mostly t-shirts. Most important, the clothes are guaranteed not made in China. Mike is now married to Tamra Davis, a film director, and lives in New York City. Some of his favorite activities include golfing and the outdoors. He is also rumoured to be an extremely bad driver. Adrock claims he's only been in two car crashes his whole life... both while Mike was driving. Mike D can also be seen in the 1984 film "Over Exposed", or in the Run DMC movies, "Krush Groove" and "Tougher than Leather", with Ad Rock and MCA. |
