WEEKEND BOX OFFICE REPORT FOR 11-13 SEP 98: ROUNDERS hits no 1

A REFLECTION ON THE LIFE OF BRETT HALL

September must be the month of birthdays. We've already had Ian and Paul and Greg cross over that magical 21 barrier, and now it is Brett's turn. I have known Brett since year eleven, where he was a sort of Ken Starr figure, keeping box loads of secret documents on his potential rivals for the year twelve captaincy. The biggest dossier was kept on good old Rudi and Scotti.

BRETT HALL UNDER FIRE OVER "DOLPHINGATE"

American Politics hits an all time low

If you had an affair with a woman while you were married, would you encourage the mistress to go tell everybody, to not hide evidence of the affair, to be open and frank about it? The very word "affair" has imputations of personal wrongdoing. That Bill Clinton was President while he had an affair is to many a very sickening thing, but it represents an inability to control himself in his private life, and the American People voted him in KNOWING that he lied about his personal life. In any case, is it anyone's business? To suggest what the president did was an "IMPEACHABLE" offence, as outlined by the charter is a severe mistake. This issue is the low point of American politics. People should seriously ask themselves: "Why did a 4 year investigation over WHITEWHATER produce NOT ONE BIT OF EVIDENCE in the Kenneth Starr report? Why did the witch hunt into Hillary Clinton not get mentioned? Why doesn't Ken Starr exonerate the Clintons for wrongdoing over whitewater (which was after all, the reason for the millions he poured into this witch hunt)?" THe first two parts of the "narrative" are like the legal version of Mills and Boon. Poor Lewinsky, who kept detailed records of every conversation, every meeting, every encounter, every word and didn't keep her mouth shut about it... what an innocent woman. And to think she thought the President would marry her. Either she has serious psychological problems (which I doubt), or was obviously keeping all those details to bribe or threaten him (in fact, she wrote a letter to the white house threatening him). She was 20, but she was not stupid or innocent. To portray her as such would be an insult to women. Needless to say, the worst thing about the report is the damage it has done to the family. If my dad was having an affair, I would not like to hear about every single intimate conversation he had with the mistress. To have this personal life replayed to everybody in the world must be very hard to take for both Chelsea and Hillary. Bill Clinton deserves the mess he's in, but on the other hand, should anything be sacred anymore? Read the Counsel's report, and make up your mind. Is it fair?

Extracts collated by myself. Though do not deal with the substantive charges.
