Duane A. Floyd's
Book Reviews

Reading is one of my favorite hobbies...I read voraciously...so, I decided that sharing some of my readings with you could be beneficial. I will be developing these pages as we go, so keep checking back, as not only will the number increase, but so will the complexity and derivable benefits......

Allow me to introduce a series of books that I am reading..."The Science Masters." These books are written by preeminent scientists in different fields. These scientists propose to write books that allow laypeople to understand the basics of the different sciences. I believe that this is a tremendous goal! As I read them, I will post book reviews...and more...I will attempt to paraphrase some of this fantastic work. This should in no way be substituted for reading these books...anyone with even a momentary interest in any science should find the book that covers that field (if it exists...some sciences are not covered). Of all the books I have read, I believe that this could be some of the most important. Why? Simple...they make important concepts available to all.

The Science Masters

  1. The Periodic Kingdom by P.W. Atkins...this book is Chemistry for non-Chemistry people! It takes the reader on a tour of that most basic of Chemical constructs, the Periodic Table.

  2. Nature's Numbers by Ian Stewart...this book is Mathematics for Mathematically Challenged people! It introduces the reader to the uses and beauty of math.

Other Books

  1. Adhocracy by Robert Waterman...a book that compares bureaucracy with a better way...Adhocracy. This is cross referenced to the Six Sigma page...I read the book for that class.

  2. All I Need to Know About Manufacturing I Learned in Joe's Garage by William B. Miller and Vicke L. Schenk...a book that teaches Lean Manufacturing via a home improvement project in Joe's Garage. This is cross referenced to the Six Sigma page...I read the book for that class.

  3. So Your Son Wants to Play in the NHL? by Dan & Jay Bylsma...a book that talks about a young man's journey to the NHL. (See I told you that there would be some hockey stuff here...I am not all about Quality, IE, etc., etc., etc.)
