| Moving Along Slowly | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Things moved along slowly over the next several months. The Home Study consists of three meetings with the Social Worker, a sanitary/health inspection, fire inspection, fingerprints, background checks and a good amount of documentation. It's much like a pre-flight checklist before a plane takes off. Everything needs to be in place before the final take-off roll can be started. The fire inspection was easy enough. I called the fire inspector that Anne referred me to and we made an appointment to meet. Within 15 minutes or so, he'd determined that everything was in order and provided me with a certificate to that effect. The health department inspection was another matter. I called her at 10:30 the morning of our scheduled 10am meeting and she |

| seemed surprised by my call. She had an emergency, she explained (rats in a local drug store storage room), and asked if 2pm would be okay. She arrived about 2:45, filled out a questionaire, told me I needed to put up another couple smoke detectors (I guess the fire inspector couldn't be trusted to do that), said I should get two single beds if I should get two kids. I assume she didn't have any problems with the sanitary conditions because she didn't make any comments before she took my check for $150.00. Considering it only took about 20 minutes, this is not a bad business to be in, revenue-wise, but I'd suggest she spring for a daily planner or something to remind her about appointments! Anyway, she was nice enough so I can't complain and I was one sheet of paper closer to compleing the Home Study requirements. | |||||||||||||||||||||
