name is Devavrathan Nambiar. I am 30 years of age. I presently head the operations of a reputed Management Consulting firm in Oman. I began my career as a Sales & Marketing professional and subsequently moved to HR & Strategic Management. I have over 10 years experience in Banking, Advertising, Sales, Marketing, Trading & Consulting sectors.
My primary focus in life is to go that extra mile in whatever I undertake. In most of the organizations I have worked previously, I might have entered them for a particular job but soon I would be doing a number of activities along with my own specialization. For the latest example, I joined this consulting firm as a Senior Executive - Marketing, mainly responsible for promoting the activities of the company. However, in less than 3 months, I had actually set up the Corporate Training Division of the firm and also successfully conducted its first Training Program. A few months down the line, I started managing the operations of the firm when the top order collapsed and successfully carried on the operations on a limited budget and just one staff. We were 11 when I joined. Now we have created a record of sorts by organizing Oman's biggest public seminar by bringing in "Jack Canfield" the world famous author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul Series of books. We had over 450 people in attendance on this event and were a runaway success. The idea was conceived, proposed and executed by me, off course with the support of the group companies. With this I am not confident of handling and managing the complete event on my own.
I also entered into strategic alliances with International Consulting firms for the delivery of technical training programs which are internationally certified, certification based consulting practices etc. during this 3 year period with the firm. I do not have any formal education in HR but I believe learning and action come from within and it is the individual spirit that counts more than qualifications. During these three years, I have had sufficient exposure to all aspects of management and I am sure that I have done my part in making the firm a strong foundation to grow. This was a far cry from this organization when I joined them.
Anyway the reason for writing this is that I am quite content with what I have given to the organization in return for the opportunity it has given me. However, there comes a time in every individual's life to move up the ladder as well as pursue his dreams. My dream is to make this local firm go global but might not receive much support from the top management and with this I am quite sure of the outcome due to limited thinking specially for an activity such as Consulting.
I am seeking opportunities from similar minded individuals or organizations in creating a world class consulting firm that would initially focus on providing simple solutions for bridging the gap between the skill levels expected in the private sector and the local skill pool available.
