Why is Ignatius Great?
We feel that St. Ignatius is one of the greatest figures in history. He is a hero because of everything he has done. He has gone through the three stages of a hero: separation, initiation, and return. The separation was when he broke his leg. He went through the initiation stage when he read the two books and figured out what he wanted to do. The return was when he went on his pilgrimage and committed himself to God. St. Ignatius is probably the least greedy person to ever leave. He dedicated over half of his life serving for other people. All he wanted to do was help people to find God in their lives. He had almost nothing but what he did have he gave it to people who needed it. He was the Mother Teresa of the 16th century. He worked for the greater glory of God. What St. Ignatius did took a lot of courage. He gave up everything to live a simple life. Everything he had he received from begging on the streets. It shows how he was able to look past the material things in life. He only took what was necessary to live. If it wasn't for St. Ignatius the Catholic religion might be a forgotten thing. Many times the Catholic religion seemed it was going to disappear. St. Ignatius and his fellow Jesuits kept it going by preaching all around the world. They converted millions of people to Catholicism. Without him there would as many opportunities out there. The 47 Jesuit high schools would have never been made. Which means U of D wouldn't exist. |
