The Weddings of Steve and Kayla

I just loved this. It was so romantic and so special to the both of them. This was the moment when they both decided that there was no way they could ever be separated.
Kayla had been married to Jack who had just found out about her affair with Steve. In his anger he raped Kayla. Kayla went to Steve and asked him to take her away.
The Proposal:

Kayla: Sure is pretty here. It’s like a sparkling white cathedral.
Steve: It is. It’s a shame to let this go to waste. Close your eyes. (Kayla closes her eyes. He reaches into his jacket and cups his hands around the ring he'd been wearing on a chain around his neck.)
Kayla: (laughs) what.
Steve: K, open your eyes, Kayla
Kayla opens her eyes and laughs.
Steve: Shhh. (He opens his hands and Kayla sees the ring.) Kayla, will you marry me?
Kayla: Steve
Steve: Right now. Right here in this beautiful sparkling cathedral?
Kayla tears up and turns around without answering.
Steve: What’s the matter baby? Don’t you want to marry me?
Kayla: Of course I do. It’s just that there’s not a minister or any witnesses around.
Steve: We don’t need any of that stuff. All we need is each other. Let’s marry ourselves, right here. We’ll do it our own way. I’m gunna ask you one more time. Will you marry me?
Kayla: (whispers) Yes.
The Vows:
Steve: Baby...I'm not really very good with words, all I know is I love you. And we were meant to be together, forever. What do they say? Til death do us part. But you know what, I don't think even that's going to keep us apart.
Kayla: I feel the same way Steve. I feel like we've known each other- since before we were born...I think we were always supposed to be together. I know I'll love you that long. And in this life, and in the next and in the next, there will always be a part of you with me, and I will always be with you.

Steve: With this ring, Steven Earl Johnson, and Kayla Caroline Brady become one. Right now and forever.
Kayla: Now and forever, I love you. I love you.
Steve: Baby, I love you

The aftermath:
They went back to the cabin and as they were starting to make love Kayla stopped Steve. The rape was still haunting her. She told Steve to just hold her that night and they would talk about the next morning.
Steve and Kayla were married aboard a yacht in July 1988, though this marriage would later be proven to be invalid, most fans regard this as their official wedding. I’m one of them. So, here is the album of the wedding of Steve and Kayla that was the most watched and highest rated Days of Our Lives in history.
Kayla’s pre wedding message to Steve
Kayla is alone on the deck of the yacht, having just realized Steve is throwing her the surprise wedding of her dreams.
(She is signing since she can’t speak)

"Steve, you’ve given me more then I could ever hope for. You’ve given me love, and happiness. You’ve taken my childhood dream and turned it into reality. And you’ve given me the courage to live it. I love you."
Steve’s pre wedding message (to the Big Dude)
After having just seen Kayla’s pre wedding message to him, Steve comes out of his hiding place and talks to "the Bid Dude."
"I can’t believe this. I can’t believe this is gunna happen. I guess I got you to thank, huh Big Dude? She thinks she gave me a lot. Man I didn’t even have dreams. I thought my life was gunna be all-bad. I had no idea that I could have love. And you gave me Kayla. Now I’ve got it all. I’m starting to feel like I deserve it. Thanks Dude. I’ll be back."
The introduction
(By the minister)
"Welcome. Welcome Steve and Kayla, amid friends and family who have joined to celebrate the union of your marriage. Before we begin the ceremony, I have a few words I’d like to say. I’ve known Steve Johnson since our days in the Merchant Marines. The Steve I knew was a good man to have on your side in a fight and he was a good buddy to be on shore leave with and he was a good friend to talk to late at night standing a lonely watch. But he was also a man who carried his pain in his heart. A pain he never spoke of. As I see him standing here before me today I see that pain is gone. In its place is a joy and happiness that is, well, it’s beautiful to see. And the reason for it is Kayla.
Kayla, I’ve just begun to know you, but you have a sweetness of spirit, open and loving nature that is so evident. You have the gift of compassion the gift of courage, the gift of love. Each of you individually is a special kind of person who has the ability to draw others to you. Together you’re unbeatable, nothing can stand in your way. I don’t know two people who have struggled harder to get to this moment then you have. You have overcome obstacles, you have gone through many ordeals. Your love has remained true. You have earned the blessings we bestow on you today. Steve and Kayla will be joined by more then the exchange of rings and the pledging of their vows. Theirs will be a union of the spirit, of the heart, and of the mind."
The Vows
Minister: Repeat after me, I Steven
Steve: I Steven
Minister: Take you Kayla
Steve: Take you Kayla
Minister: To be my wife.
Steve: to be my wife.
Minister: Will you love her and comfort her, honor her and keep her in sickness and in health? And forsaking all others be faithful to her as long as you both shall live?
Steve: I will
(Kayla has to sign her vows since her voice is still gone. Kimberly interprets.)

Minister: Repeat after me, I Kayla
Kayla (Signing, Kim interprets): I Kayla
Minister: Take you Steven
Kayla (hesitantly): Take you….take you Steven…(She stops.)
Steve gets emotional and signs courage to her.

Steve then tells the minister he can continue.
Minister: I Kayla
Kayla (Kimberly): I Kayla…she stops again. Then miraculously (as if we didn’t expect it) she starts to speak.
Kayla: I Kayla take you Steve to be my husband.
Steve is visibly moved.

Kayla: I will love you and honor you and keep you in sickness and health. Forsaking all others I will be faithful to you as long as we both shall live.
They exchange rings.
"I give you this ring as a token of our love and as a pledge of the vows I have made to you".

The personal vows
Steve: "Kayla, I’m standin’ here, and I still can’t believe that I deserve you. I wouldn’t be the man that I am right now if it wasn’t for you. See, I thought I was brave, but I found out it takes more courage to open up to another person. I thought I was strong, but you showed me that it takes more strength to let people see your feelings. And I thought I knew how to love, but now I know that it’s much harder to let someone love me. And that someone is you. You saw into my heart when no one else could. And you believed in me. So, I’m gunna spend the rest of my life livin’ up to the faith that you have in me. I don’t have much, baby, but what I have is yours. I’m yours. I love you, Sweetness."
Kayla: "When I was a little girl I dreamed of loving a man who was strong and brave and true. And of a romantic wedding on the water surrounded by all the people I love the most. I never told that secret dream to anyone, but somehow you found out. You gave me that dream. You made it come true. There’s just one thing that’s different. It’s far more wonderful then I ever imagined. I dreamed of being in love. I never dreamed of sharing my very soul. I dreamed of sharing my thoughts, but I never dreamed that someone could hear me without words. In my darkest trouble, in my coldest silence, I looked for you and you were there. I’m yours forever. I love you."

Toasts
By Marcus, Steve’s best friend from the orphanage
"Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to make a toast. I’ve known this bum longer then anyone here. Always in trouble, one thing or another."
Steve: "Hey, where were you?"
Marcus: "Right there with ya. It’s no surprise Steve fell for Kayla, any man with a pulse would. But now here’s the shocker, ladies and gentleman, she says she loves him back. She says it so many times I’m beginning to believe that it’s true."
Steve: "Tell him baby."
Kayla: "It is true."
Marcus: "You are one lucky guy." (he toasts Steve) Kayla, you got a good guy here. (he toasts Kayla).
Kayla: "I know that."
Marcus: "You’re two of the best. I’d like to wish you a long life of health and happiness. All the best to the bride and groom."
(They all raise their glasses.)

By Roman
"I’ve got a telegram I want to read here. A telegram from, hooho, Sydney Australia. Congratulations, we couldn’t be happier. And Shawn Douglas wants to know when he’ll have a new little cousin to play with."
Steve: "Well you just send them one back and tell them we’ll be working on it real soon."
Roman: "Our love, Hope, Bo and little Shawn Douglas.
Now, I would like to say something if you’ll indulge me please. We Brady’s, well family means a lot to us. And growing up Pop had an expression that we had a magic table. It didn’t matter how many mouths we had to feed we always found a seat for one more, right Pop? Which means we have always got room for one more in our family. Even for someone as interesting as Steve Johnson. I guess what I’m saying here, and there was a time I never thought I would say it, but now I say it with great pride, welcome to the family. And Kayla, we love you. And always will. Much happiness to both of you. To Steve and Kayla."

Kayla and Steve in the gondola at the end of the wedding.
Steve: "Nice wedding, huh?"
Kayla: "I don’t know how you do it. You reach inside my soul and my heart and you pull out my dreams. And then you just give them to me."
Steve: "That’s the way I want it to be. Always."
Kayla: "When I was standing at that alter and I could feel your love surrounding me, supporting me and I knew I had nothing to fear. Not then, not ever again. Then suddenly this feeling just came over me, and I knew that if I tried to talk, I’d be able to. I took your strength and your courage and I spoke."
Steve: "Well you remember what I told you, that everything I have, everything I have is yours. I meant that. The strength that I gave you today, I got from you. And we’re going to spend the rest of our lives giving to each other and getting from each other."
Kayla: "I can’t wait."
Steve: "Why wait? Come here Mrs. Johnson."

The Proposal:
Steve: I know you think I’m pushing you, but I’m not.
The Aftermath:

After the return of Steve’s thought to be dead wife Marina Tuscano it turned out the wedding on the yacht was invalid. Steve and Kayla became estranged when Marina came back into Steve’s life. Though Steve had no interest in starting anything with Marina, it threw a major kink in their relationship. During this time Kayla discovered she was pregnant.
Just after Steve and Kayla reconciled, Marina turned up murdered. Kayla became a suspect and was arrested during her and Steve’s attempt at re-marriage.
Steve asked Kayla to marry him again. Kayla told him she’d have to think about it. There were still a lot of things in their relationship she wasn’t sure about. Of course Steve didn’t take that lightly. They were having a baby, and he thought they should be legally married. Kayla waited a few days and talked to Jack about her reservations.
Kayla: So you’re going to give me as much time as I need to think about it, right.
Steve: Sure.
Kayla: Good, I’m glad to hear you’re not pressuring me.
Steve: Sweetness, all I want to do is be with you. That’s all.
Kayla: You really mean that?
Steve: I want to wake up with ya in the morning. Go to sleep with you at night. We don’t need a piece of paper for that.
Kayla: Well, I’m glad to hear that because I’ve made my decision.
Steve: (looking unsure) What is it?
Kayla: I think Friday sounds like the perfect day to get married.
Steve hugs Kayla: Oh, baby.
The Vows:
Steve said his vows, the normal wedding vows, and gave Kayla the ring. As Kayla prepared to say her vows Abe Carver showed up. The wedding stopped as Kayla was accused of killing Marina Tuscano.
At the police station everyone hears Kayla threaten to kill Marina. Kayla is arrested. She gives her wedding ring back to Steve and Roman takes her off to jail.
At her trial Kayla goes into labor. She later gives birth to their daugther, Stephanie Kay Johnson. The Second Wedding
Aired July 1990
The Proposal:
Steve throws a box at Kayla as he sticks a cigar in his mouth. Kayla opens it, it’s the ring from the cigar.
Steve: Ah, you don’t like it do ya. I’ll take it back.
Kayla: No, no, don’t you dare. I love it. (She puts the cigar band on her finger.) It’s the most beautiful ring I ever saw. Must have cost you a fortune.
Steve: (Kisses Kayla’s hand) You’re worth it. But you know what?
Kayla: What?
Steve: This isn’t about rings. It isn’t about money. (he takes Kayla and sits her down on the couch.) You know what they say don’t they? They say third times a charm. That’s right. We’ve been down that long hard road, baby. We’re gunna make it this time. We’re gunna get married this time we’re gunna stay married.
Kayla: Right.
Steve: Right. We’re gunna make it. We’re home free. That is if you say yes. So whadya say? Will you marry me again, Kayla?
Kayla: Yes. Again and again and again.
The Vows:
(Your ordinary garden variety vows…will have them here soon. If someone else wants to write them up for me, I won’t object. ;))
The letter to Stephanie:

Kayla: Our dearest daughter,
Your father and I wrote this for you to be read on our wedding day. To have you here to share in this happy day with us makes it even more special. Because out of our love, you were born. You have enriched our lives more then we possibly tell you. We only wish that we could make you as happy as you have made us. As we make our vows to one another and we vow to you to love you and to care for you the best way we know how. And to teach you like our parents have taught us. And we hope that like these flowers around here, we will grow together as a family. And continue to blossom and flourish. We love you.
Steve: We love you Stephanie. My Little Sweetness.

The Aftermath:
Steve and Kayla were planning on taking an extended honeymoon by sailing off into the sunset. The night before they were supposed to leave Steve “died.”
RETURN TO A PATCH OF SWEETNESS
