| My Minds Mine- "The Margret" EP This North Carolina trio play fast punk tuneswith rebellious lyrics. Records like this seemed more common in the past. It's nice to hear it done this well again. One song is pro-smoking with a verse that goes " I pay your fucking taxes on my cancer sticks, you godamn non-smokers can suck our smoking dicks." Cool. (MC) MaximumRockNRoll #143 |
| A spirited punk band has emerged from North Carolina. They go by the moniker "M3" or "My Mind's Mine" the name of the EP is "Margret" it's all about fast guitar and drums with strong punk singing. The M3 anthem is good shit."I can't beleive people getting thier ideas from TV". The "Suck My Butt" song says, "You god damn non-smokers can suck our smoking dicks". Me thinks these guys are in cahoots with the esteemed editor, Mr. Yohannan. Bruce Roehrs column- MRR April 1995 |

| My Mind's Mine CD self titled, self produced I know I say this about CD's I receive for review all the time, but I really didn't know what to expect bfrom My Mind's Mine when I looked at their record. The artwork looks like it could have been swiped from a mid-90's pop punk band, but the back cover has a very DIY (read: poorly conceived, executed and reproduced) feel and there's a sticker on the inside urging me to "contact the M3 pit crew." I'm not sure whether they're talking about a mosh pit or the kind of pits they have at NASCAR races, but either way I had trouble incorporating it into the band's larger aesthetic. Not that that's a bad thing minds you, but at least inthe moments before you purchase it, the cover may very well be more important than the record. Once you get past the cover though, you'll find some very loose, simple and melodic punk rock and roll the likes of with seems to be very plentiful in North Carolina as of late. In fact, My Mind's Mine reminded me quite a bit of one NC band in particular: My So-Called Band. Just like MSCB, M3 have a very lo-fi, old-school aesthetic, but it's obvious that they still listen to and take influence from a lot of more recent music. In other words, this disc isn't blatant worship of some long-dead subgenre, nor is it made by kids who are totally ignorant of what's come before them. In fact,I think that M3 actually improve a lot of the shortcomings in My So-Called Band's music. It's not that they do any one thing in particular better, but they're way more consistent, lacking the occasional not-so-hot riffs and lyrics that can slip through their fellow North Carolinian's cracks. What does all this mean to those of you reading this from outside of North Carolina? Probably nothing, because I don't think that My Mind's Mine are quite at the stage where people all over the world need to be going nuts for them(at least yet), but they do have potential, and even that is to be commended in a state with as little going on as ours.
