Sadly, the Oosterdam was making progress toward San Diego to greet a new set of passengers on Saturday. The last day of the cruise always seems to have a sort of "sweet sadness" for me. Clocks are set back, comment forms are delivered to staterooms, and suitcases are packed and put out in the corridor. Many passengers seem to get a frantic feeling to "do some last minute" things - check out the bar you didn't see, see a movie, gather contact information from new found friends. It's difficult to live "in the moment" and savor the wonderful experience over the past week. Reality begins to call, and with each passing hour the voice gets louder and louder.
I find it's best for me to relax on the last day while performing the necessary tasks for the inevitable disembarkation. Our Cruise Critic group managed to meet at 5:00 p.m. in the Martini Bar for drinks one last time to say our goodbyes. Knowing that I had a long drive the next day, I had dinner alone in the Lido Buffet, watched a movie in my stateroom, and turned in early.
