Severinus De Ruyver

 (1815 - 1882 )

Like his brothers, Severin was also a servant when he went to the Wetteren ten Ede town-hall to join the military. However, he only stood only 1 m 602 mm and was unsuitable because he had incurable scrofulous tumours. In 1846 he lived as a servant on the "Plaets 135" with Pieter De Bruyker, a farmer. On July 1850 he moved to Laarne where he married on Sophia De Vos, natural daughter of Coleta De Vos, on April 15, 1858. Sophie De Vos signed the certificate but Severin couldn't write his name! Sophia and Coleta were farmers and Severinus also became a crofter. He lived with his wife and mother-in-law on Ascopstraat where his five children were born (1).

Coleta De Vos died in 1874 and the same year her daughter died on June 19. Severin left Ascopstraat and went to the Quastraatje in the same municipality. There he died on February 16, 1882, 67 years old.

Severin was the only son of Joannes Franciscus who had children :

Joseph was the oldest son, born on January 25, 1859.

Augustinus was born on January 27, 1860.

Josephina was born on December 30, 1861. She married Petrus De Visscher, a carpenter, on May 4, 1892. Petrus died in Laarne on November 16, 1896. Josephine, also called "Joske" couln't stay alone with her three children, so she remarried Leo Casimir Van Rijsselberghe, a farmer, the son of Jan Baptiste and Seraphina De Bruycker. They had five children. Leo died in Laarne on Kerkstraat (Churchstreet) in 1931. Joske stayed with her son, J.B. Evariste until her death, on September 17, 1951.

Leo, another son of Severinus De Ruyver, was born on November 23, 1863 and died in childhood on New-Years' day 1864.

Petrus was born on February 14, 1866.
