Jan Baptiste De Ruyver
(1844 - 1900)

Jan Baptiste was born on October 11, 1844 around 1 a.m. (1). Jan Baptiste De Ruyver married Maria Theresia Spitaels on February 15, 1873, in Nederbrakel (now part of Brakel) (2). Maria Theresia Spitaels was the daughter of Josephus and Melania D'Hayer and was born on January 19, 1852, in Nederbrakel. Jan Baptiste De Ruyver became weaver, while Maria Theresia looked as housewife after the 10 children, which were nearly all born and raised in Nederbrakel (3).:

Theophiel De Ruyver was born on May 13, 1873.

Edmond De Ruyver was born on November 9, 1874, and married Emma Maria De Smet, who herself was born on December 6, 1873, in Sint-Martens-Lierde (now part of the Municipality of Lierde). They raised 3 sons and 1 daughter. Two of their children got descendants, while one son became a Catholic brother. Edmond De Ruyver and Emma Maria De Smet died both in Brakel, respectively on December 9, 1961, and May 1, 1957. By 1985, they had 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. An important part of these descendants are living in France. In the beginning of the 1980's, one descendant moved from France to Canada, and is still living there.

Kamiel De Ruyver was born on May 15, 1877, in Michelbeke, unlike his siblings who all were born in Nederbakel. Elodie Van De Capelle, born on September 15, 1877 in Nederbrakel, became his wife. They raised 4 sons and 3 daughters in Nederbrakel. Five of them got descendants, leaving Kamiel and Elodie 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild by 1985. Kamiel and Elodie both died in Nederbrakel, respectively on April 4, 1944, and September 8, 1961.

Hendrik De Ruyver (called Henri), was born on February 4, 1879. He married a certain Catherine, who had already a son, Cyriel, at the time of the wedding. Cyriel adopted the name De Ruyver. Henri and Catherine got 3 other sons. Probably in the beginning of the 20th century, the family moved to the United States, where it settled in the State of Michigan. Catherine died there in 1933, while Henri died in a car accident in 1953. His stepson Cyrille and his third son, too, died in accidents. Only his first two sons got descendants, leaving Henri and Catherine 4 grandchildren, 1 step-grandchild, at least 8 great-grandchildren, at least 5 great-great-grandchildren and at least 2 great-great-great-grandchildren by 1985. For more information, see the chapter on the descendants of Pieter Joseph De Ruyver in the U.S.A.

Maria Renilde De Ruyver, born on August 26, 1880, married a certain Claeys, with whom she raised 3 children. Two of them got descendants, giving Maria Renilde 3 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren by 1985. Maria Renilde died before 1956.

Remi De Ruyver was born on November 6, 1882, and moved as bachelor to the States. He married twice there, but died without children on September 12, 1954, in South Bend, Indiana. For more information, see the chapter on the descendants of Pieter Joseph De Ruyver in the U.S.A.

Victor (Sebastiaan) De Ruyver was born on September 29, 1884, but died as young bachelor. According to some sources, his decease took place in the U.S.A.

Rene (Gustaaf) De Ruyver was born on November 11, 1886, and also moved to the States, where he made some fortune. He returned to Belgium, where he lived in the hamlet Boterhoek in Sint-Maria-Oudenhove (now part of the City of Zottegem). Rene did never marry. For more information, see the chapter on the descendants of Pieter Joseph De Ruyver in the U.S.A.

Maria (Silvia) De Ruyver was born on October 22, 1888. She moved from Nederbrakel to Schaarbeek, nearby Brussels, and died there without having married.

Maria Emma De Ruyver was born on November 11, 1890. She married but died without children. Her decease took place before 1956.

Jan Baptiste De Ruyver passed away at the age of 55 on April 22, 1900, in Nederbrakel (the hamlet Kruisstraat). His widow, Maria Theresia Spitaels, remarried at the age of 63 with Pierre Jourez, on May 19, 1915, in Nederbrakel. Pierre Jourez, who himself had been married already twice before, was nicknamed "Fransche Meetinge". On December 14, 1937, Maria Theresia Spitaels died in Nederbrakel at the age of 85.
