Day 1 - Monday - 25/10/04 Cont.

On the way I stopped for a fabulous ice cream and the best gelateria (ice cream parlor) in Rome -
*** Giolitti. I tasted pineapple, green melon, orange, lemonchelo, Soupe Anglais (which tastes like chewing gum) and raspberries.

*** The Pantheon - the roman temple of all the gods was built in the first century by Emperor Hadrian in 120.
It is a huge dome - 43.3 meters high and 43.3 meters in diameter. Originaly it held the statues of the gods but currently it is a church and holds two tombs of the kings of modern Italy (Vittorio Emanuele II and Umberto I) as well as the tomb of Rafael. It still has the original bronze doors of 118. A hole in the ceiling (the Oculus) is the only source of light (and is enough being 9 meters in diameter).
A nice shop of wooden toys near the Pantheon:
