| From there I walked to see *** Piazza Navona - still shaped as the 1st century stadium built by Emperor Domitian. In the center is Bernini's *** Fontana dei Fiumi - The Four River's Fountain - with a statue for each of the four great rivers (one of each continent as was know at the time) - the Nile (with it's eyes covered as it's origins were not known), the Rio del Plata the Ganges and the Danube (and, of course, and obelisk on top). At night I returned to the Fontana di Trevi to see it illuminating (and it looks even better than it is during the day). There are almost always choirs singing there. |
