Day 8: Southwark
Day 8 -- Monday -- 16/12/02 --
             Southwark:
I wanted to walk across the river from this station, but I went the wrong direction and found myself going north and passing the Charing Cross Tube and Railway station - but there I also found small shops selling cheap postcards. I turned back and walked across the Thames to County Hall - where I saw the Dali exhibition - which was expensive and very small.
From there I walked east along the Thames passing the National Theater
and stopped to eat lunch at the National Film Theatre, where I ate a very nice inexpensive lunch at the restaurant along the embankment.
From there I went to
** Shakespeare Globe Theatre - a recreation of the Globe Theatre that was burned in Shakespeare's Time. I took a guided tour there, and then looked in the museum which explains a lot about the period.
From there I took the tube and went again to the
** Tate Modern (From London Bridge Tube to Southwark Tube on Victoria Line).
The museum is built in an old power station to which two floors have been added. Inside the main Turbine hall - which is huge -- only one statue is shown -- This time a huge statue that looks like a wormhole. I really liked some of the exhibits in this museum.
