If this was such a thing as gun bill that took the guns out of the hands of criminals then I say go ahead. Make a gun bill that will do that. However there has not been a gun bill that actually curved gun violence. Let alone valance. We as a nation need to look at the facts, and not take are emotions in to it.
Fact: The majority (54%) of the homicides were committed without firearms.
Fact: Japanese where gun laws are some of the strictest in the world are being murdered and committing suicide at a rate of about 21 per 100,000. In the U.S., our combined murder and suicide rate is about 21 also.
Fact: States that disallow concealed carry have violent crime rates 11% higher than national averages.
Fact: People with concealed carry permits are:
� 5.7 times less likely to be arrested for violent offenses than the general public
� 13.5 times less likely to be arrested for non-violent offenses than the general public
Fact: Compared to the entire population, Texas CCW holders are about 7.6 times less likely to be arrested of a violent crime. The numbers breakdown as follows:
� 214,000 CCW holders
� 526 (0.2%) felony arrests of CCW holders that have been adjudicated
� 100 (0.05%) felony convictions
Fact: Taking Dr. Gary Kleck�s estimate of 2.5 million gun defenses each year, divided by the FBI estimates of crimes committed with a firearm. Guns are used 65 times more often to prevent a crime than to commit one.
Fact: Criminals don�t register their guns. So why are we disarming law abiding citizens.
Fact: The courts have ruled that the police are not liable to come to your aid once a 911 call is placed. Again why are we disarming law abiding citizens.
