The Nile, is born in the mountains called Qomr, a worth that is written with a dammah on the qaf and a socoun on the mim, and is pronounced Qomr, meaning something white, some people write the name of the mountain different, that is to say with a fathah on the qaf, deriving it this way from the moon, saying this way that the Nile sorts from the mountains of the Al-Qamar or the Nile. Situated in the south of Africa, on the other side of the equator, stretching far towards the west. Certain authors add that they are red. From the foot of those mountains spring several waters who produce ten rivers, five of them form further on a lake, and the five others an other lake. From those two lakes six rivers leave, who end up in a third lake, from which leaves in the end one single river, which is the Nile. The Nile runs successively through the land of the Negroes, who are the neighbors of the Habesh, Nubie....
