  • Most of these tracks are Paul Schwartz originals. There are two adaptations, though - Amazing Grace is the second track, but the real highlight of the album is the ninth track, Simple Gifts. Schwartz's version is backed by orchestra and synthesizer, and Lisbeth Scott's vocals are well-complemented by Irish whistle and highland pipes. Have a listen on Amazon - it's the best track, and it may be sufficient to justify purchasing the album.

The rest of the album contains a number of tracks featuring various combinations of orchestra, synths, and Lisbeth Scott's vocals. Highlights beyond Simple Gifts include the first track, Veni Redemptor Gentium, which beautifully showcases Lisbeth Scott's voice, and track three, Miserere, featuring a full choir. Track five, part one of Auguries of Innocence, demonstrates Schwartz's talent as an orchestral composer. Though I do regard this album highly, I recommend purchasing the sequel, State of Grace II: Turning to Peace, before the original.
