This photo was taken looking up from the San Andreas Fault. While the early padres did not realize what a monster they had established their mission upon, they soon realized that the area was prone to earthquakes, when a swarm of strong jolts struck the area over a 20 day period. Portions of the earliest buildings collapsed & they began work on the much larger present church. (DLW, August 1998)
