Resurrection Drill Team (Contributed by Carolyn Cook) In about 1954 Resurrection not only had a football team it also had a drill team. The football team played a game at St. Thomas High School and the drill team performed. I lived directly across from the nuns on Majestic and lived at the school even though we were probably the only family on the block that wasn't Catholic. I was one of the mascots for the drill team that year along with a girl named Dianna (I think.) We marched down the center of the field and Dianna and I went off to the side of the field while the older girls did their routine. We got to talking as little girls do and the drill team finished their routine and marched off the field. The announcer came over the loud speaker and said that we better get off the field before the big football players ran over us. Dianna and I marched out to the center of the field and marched off the field just as we had been taught. The drill team won trophies that year. I still have mine although it is in very bad shape. Mrs. Parker was the one that sponsored the drill team and one of her daughters was on it. She lived on Zoe Street.I will never forget that. We had green and white uniforms, white boots with tassels on them and hats. I had red hair so I must have been a sight. It was fun. |
