Beverly Rivera Memories
(Contributed by Beverly Rivera)
I was one of the first people to sign the guest book so I am way down at the bottom after Tom. I didn't fill in too much information and decided to do so now.
My name is Beverly Rivera and I lived on Boyce Street from 1954 when I was 4 till I moved out in 1969. We lived right next door to the Lopez family: Cecilia, Mr. Lopez, the kids Margie (deceased), Olga (Virginia), Annie, Christina, Irma, Hector deceased), Leondro, and Laura. Virginia and I were best friends all through grade school and had great times. We would walk to Pugh Elementary and Russo's grocery store together and always had such fun.
We lived in several houses before we bought the one next to the Lopez family, the first house being on the corner of Boyce and Boyles. Across the street from The Turninni family were Reggie, Rudolf Sr., and the kids Angie, Rudolf Jr., Teresa, Stella and James. I spent many days visiting their home sitting in the living room talking to Reggie while she worked embroidering men's shirts. She would tell me stories about when she was little and how she grew up in a convent with the Nuns. All the kids went to Resurrection Catholic School and went on to Incarnate Word and to St. Thomas. I think one of the grandchildren lives in the house now and Reggie is in bad health and has moved in with the youngest son James. I really miss her stories and still remember the things she taught me.
We also lived in front of the Hernandez family: Mella, Mitchell and the kids Sandra, Ricky, Andrea, Inez, and Maggie. They also all went to Resurrection and on to Catholic high schools.
I had a lot of good friends: Thelma Torres, Alice Rodriguez, Berth Rodriguez and Albert. Went to McReynolds with Max Gandera, Eddie Perez and his twin Liz. I had a crush on Eddie Perez in Jr. High but heard he passed away years ago.
I went to Austin High School and was not too happy there so when I got a job the summer of 1968 a half a semester before I would graduate I just never went back. I did get a GED and stayed at a job at Walgreens Distribution Center for 35 years until they moved to Waxahachie in 2004.
I had a sister named Barbara who was a little older than me and a younger brother named David. My best friend Sandy Davila moved in across the street from me along with her brothers Eloy, Rick, and Roland after Mr. Herman died. We still stay in touch with each other even though she lives in California now and has been married for 35 years. She has recently had her first grandchild and is in heaven.
There is one person who was a very dear friend named Lupe Garcia who spent a lot time at our house growing up. She started out as my brother's girlfriend but after they broke up we remained friends for a long time. I have not heard from her in years because of a misunderstanding and would love to hear from her again and make peace. So if anyone knows where she may be please give her my email address.
I have a few other stories in the Memories and People sections of this website and would love to hear from anyone from DH. Feel free to email me so we can reminisce. I may be able to tell you something about someone you may be looking for.
