Minutes of the Meeting of the Genesee Valley Food History Guild
Meeting time: 12:00 pm, April 28, 2008
Big Springs Historical Museum, Caledonia, NY
Members in attendance: Sarah LeCount, Lyn Somers (Sec.). The business meeting was called to order at 11:58 am by Marie Schultz (Chair).
Terry Girard made a motion that the Secretary�s minutes be accepted as published; seconded by Pat Mead; approved by voice vote.
Sarah LeCount made a motion that the Treasurer�s report be accepted as published; seconded by Pat Mead; approved by voice vote.
Pat Mead, Program Committee member, reported that the September program will be a field trip to Hurd Orchards scheduled for Monday, September 29. The cost will be approximately $25. per person and will include a special luncheon, a talk on Hurd Orchard and a booklet of favorite recipes. Their shop will be open and offering a wide variety of their products as well as handmade items from local craft-persons. Sixteen members indicated an initial desire to attend. We will need a final list at the May meeting.
Pat also indicated that there will be an informal meeting in early July (possibly at GCVM) to make final plans for the Genesee County Fair and the trip to Hurd Orchard.
Jackie Ridley gave an overview of the plans for our booth at the Genesee County Fair which will be a non-costumed cooking demonstration this year. A large banner will define our space, GCVM brochures will be available and as will GVFHG membership forms and brochures. Free calendars and bookmarks will be given away as well. Volunteers are needed for set-up on July 14 and to staff the booth July 15-19.
Marie Scultz introduced a new member, Pat Hermance, and two visitors � Dana Ray and Mary Drotar.
Jackie Ridley reviewed the contents of the New Member packets. Thank you Jackie for all your hard work.
Marie Schultz reviewed the procedure for borrowing from and updating the Food Files and announced that Sarah LeCount has agreed to become our new Librarian. Thank you, Sarah!
Marie also displayed the new Gift Certificates � perfect small gifts for any occasion.
Marie inquired if members are still interested in have GVFHG aprons printed. Mary Liccini made a motion to have 50 good quality, adjustable aprons printed at an approximate cost of $6. to $8. per apron; Nancy Keating seconded the motion; the motion passed by voice vote.
Marie suggested that we schedule book reviews for next year. Lynne Bellucio has suggested Perfection Salad. Evie Taylor made a motion that we have book reviews and start with this book; Beverley Reeves seconded the motion; the motion passed by voice vote. The Program Committee will decide on dates.
Lyn Somers (Secretary) announced that there was no correspondence this past month.
Marie Schultz gave a report on her research on websites. As webmaster, Marie felt that there would be an advantage to having a domain name and ad-free site but felt that the cost of over $100. per year was perhaps beyond our means at present. Evie Taylor made a motion to keep our existing website for another year at no cost; Bid Rubenstein seconded the motion; the motion was approved by show of hands (15 for approval, 6 abstentions).
Everyone was reminded to please remember to sign in at every meeting. There will be two books to sign � the guild book and the museum book.
Pat Hermance made a motion to adjourn; Jackie Ridley seconded; approved by voice vote. The meeting was adjourned at 12:45 pm.
N B It was immediately determined that an item regarding the Genesee County Fair had not been brought forward. With all members present and approving, the matter of the banner for the fair was discussed. Gail Wright made a motion that Jackie Ridley be instructed to order a full color, 2 by 5 foot, laminated banner with black print on an ivory background; Nancy Keating seconded the motion; approved by show of hands (16 in favor, 5 abstentions).

Secretary�s Note: Our speaker this month was the Rev. Elizabeth Meachen portraying the sister of our own John MacKay. She spoke as though welcoming us, as newcomers, into the Genesee Valley and gave many helpful hints to help us get settled. She also provided some special edible treats which, as anyone who knows us knows, are always welcome!
May Speaker: Lynne Bellucio will be our guide to �Eating Your Way Through the Phelps-Gorham Purchase�.
