The adventures of The Lone Ranger (John Reid) and The Green Hornet (Britt Reid) entertained and captivated audiences first on old time radio programs, then in early movies, and later on classic television programs.  The excellent storylines and high standards not only enthralled fans of all ages, they also instilled in them a sense of moral ethics and respect for law and order that they still love and embody today.  While the old radio programs have been off the public airwaves for some time, and the television shows have left the air, the love for the crimefighting  Reid family endures.

In the tradition of remembering our heroic Reid family, the modern-day fans of both eras, The Lone Ranger and The Green Hornet, have produced and maintained many great online sites dedicated to their memory.  For several years they existed, almost as separate fan bases.

Recently, the nephew of Clayton Moore, Craig Coomer and Green Hornet writer/fan Dennis Rau have collaborated with artist Ruben Procopio to bring the fans of both legends together, to share their stories with the fans and to help maintain the true legends intact.  The recent passing of Clayton Moore on 12/28/99 brought an outpouring of fan love and support to Craig's website.

The time traditionally when Green Hornet fans remember and celebrate the classic television show was the anniversary of the show, Sep't. 9 each year.  Many Lone Ranger fans choose Clayton Moore's birthday, Sep't. 14 each year, to reflect and remember the life of this great man.

So it seemed appropriate to perhaps choose the week each year beginning on Sep't. 9 to remember both legends, and to name this period of remembrance 'Lone Ranger/Green Hornet Week'.  It would be a perfect way for the united fans of both periods to celebrate together.

History, however had other plans.  As outlined in the earlier Hornet story,
'Inside Black Beauty' (released Sep't. 9, 2002) what began as a visit to the Dean Jeffries classic car and an 'inside look' for the fans in the 'Happy Birthday Hornet' ongoing storyline became much more.  Returning from Los Angeles after my Sep't. 9-10, 2001 visit to the Black Beauty for the story, my flight landed in Ft. Lauderdale. FL at 7:05 a.m on Sep't. 11.  This was less than two hours before the terrorist attacks on the United States of America.

Due to the period of national shock and mourning following the Sep't. 11 events, the idea of the 'Lone Ranger/ Green Hornet Week' took a back seat as a priority in our lives.
The idea would have to be reshaped, postponed or just not done.  It would be difficult to overcome the yearly shadow of these horrible events, occurring right in the middle of our yearly remembrance.

Then, out of the ashes of  this tragedy, a message of hope.  A single man's touching story of bravery and heroism in the face of these events would enable not only a nation to regroup and stand tall, it would also show us a way to bring our project to the fans after all.  It came about in a simple way, two simple words, words of courage, words of strength, and ironically words known very well to fans of  The Green Hornet.  The man was Todd Beamer.  The words were "Let's Roll".

So it came to pass that this man's story, along with those other brave souls on that doomed flight on that fateful day, became more than just a rallying cry of the human spirit.  Those fateful words recall many things to many people.  They will forever have a multifaceted meaning, as will this time of year, so etched in the psyche of the American people.

We choose to remember those victims of the terrorist attacks now, particularly on Sep't. 11, and we will keep the memories of our friends and loved ones as cherished memories forever.  Thankful for having known them, thankful for having them in our lives.  We choose to embrace the week beginning Sep't. 9 each year as a week of loving respect and memory.
We dedicate this week each year to all those many thousands of fans of the Reid family, as well as the many more thousands worldwide touched by the events of Sep't . 11.

This week began as a tribute to a legendary fictional crimefighting family.  Now,
due to the extraordinary strength and character of  the human spirit,  this week lives forever as a real-life tribute, a bridge through troubled times leading to a brighter and stronger future for us all.  It seems like a beautiful form of final justice.  One befitting our American heroes.  When you think about it, The Lone Ranger, The Green Hornet, and Todd Beamer himself would have wanted it that way.

Please feel free to send us your thoughts, memories, photos and anything else you feel would be enjoyed by the fans and loved ones of these brave people.  Everything from fans of the old time radio programs, the great actors, writers and stars of the TV shows and movies, and all of those touched by the events of Sep't. 11.  From this day forward, all are welcome here.

Help us to build this bridge of hope, love and peaceful strength leading to a brighter future for fans of the new, united legends, real and fictional.  Your chance to share your own story, and write yourself into the legend.  Your stories and photos will be added to the 'Time Bridge', seen by all the fans in an ongoing yearly cycle and will be shared with the world during that special week, beginning each year on Sep't. 9.
