I rented a helicopter to get this wonderful shot, and I apologize for the blurriness. I used the fastest film I could find, but, even with the aperture wide open,
I had to resort to a rather lengthy exposure time. I begged the pilot to try to keep the chopper as still as possible, but I guess he couldn't hear me over the hurricane.
Despite this, you can still see the wonderful combinations of architecture which have made this a favourite attraction, and one of which Mayor Ed is supremely proud! Based on ideas of his
own design, Mayor Ed has used salvaged portions of homes demolished when route 13 was rerouted to pass by Ed's Garage and Bait Shop...
"Open 24 Hours! (spread out over a whole week) Get Leeched and Gassed at the Same Time!"
The Southern-Colonial Early-Victorian Gothic-Chalet 4-storey home, complete with two Medieval Towers on either end, 13 minarets, a cathedral dome, 6 dormers, and 5½ gables, is completely surrounded by a massive, ornate
stone wall fully 4.5 metres (15 feet) high!
Western Tower
The Western Tower, placed on the southern side of the house to catch the best sun, is by far the most impressive. Notice the careful placement of the concrete blocks in order to simulate an authentic British castle.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to see the stained-glass window here, but it is truly magnificent! It was created by Mayor Ed's son, Ed (named after his uncle on his father's side) while he was in priso... um... on vacation in
Europe. Made entirely from the many multi-coloured liq... pop bottles his father sent him, it is a perfect replica of his cel... er... hotel room in Switzerland.
Gold Minaret
Mayor Ed's pride and joy, he laboured for months gathering all the gold gum wrappers he could find, then pain-stakingly peeled all of the waxed paper from each wrapper and carefully placed each and every one himself, lovingly
rubbing the minaret to a glistening shine with the same chamois he uses to wipe down his car.
Mayor Ed currently resides in his garage, at least until someone figures out how to take down part of the wall to build a gate, and he's just too tired after mayoring all day to climb over the wall every night.
