Neverwinter Knights - Baby Basilisk

Tarsakh 13-27, 1375: The students are assigned to bring back a baby basilisk from the meres south of Neverwinter. With a little prep, and a wagon with a crate, they head south. Just north of the mere is the Edge of the Mere Inn, a launching place for adventurers seeking treasure and fame in the mere. Listening to stories in the Inn, they learn there is an ancient black dragon, a beholder mage, and other creepy-crawlies to be aware of. The next morning they trek to the mere, discover the wagon and horses may have difficulty moving through it, and bring them back to the Inn. The students discover a petrified woman shortly before running into an adult basilisk. Barnaby is petrified be before the students escape. Treking back towards the Inn with both Barnaby and the woman, they come across a Wizard willing to unpetrify the two for a small fee. After some haggling, he frees Barnaby and then the woman, who is a ranger named Allyssa Covendale. She pays off her fee and then some, and agrees to assist the students. The plan is to get the adult basilisk(s) to chase some of the students while the others truss up the baby. Naturally, the plan is abandoned when Barnaby and Darvin move to attack one of the adults. Matteo gets the other adult to chase him. After many fits and starts, and both Barnaby and Harold being turned to stone, and Darvin almost dying, they kill one of the basilisks and secure the baby. They get while the getting is good. Another night in the Inn where they get plyed with drinks and calls for their tale. The next day they return to the Academy.

Tarsahk 27 - Mirtil 6, 1375: The students study and prepare for the upcoming festival for Greengrass. Days later, they are assigned to deal with a rogue basilisk that has been attacking a thorp on the Mere near where the students killed an adult basilisk and captured the baby. They venture to the Inn, spend the night, then press on to the thorp, passing one on the way. They are met by an old man with a pitchfork who looks relieved they are there to deal with the basilisk. The students learn the creature has petrified every adult but the miller, including the thorp's wizard, Phlauge the Great, in addition to many animals. They decide to lay in wait for the creature. They don't have to wait long before ten lizardfolk arrive via the creek. There is a short fight, with one of the lizardfolk using a horn that seems to summon the basilisk. There are two attepts to use sleep arrows which fail, so they kill the basilisk. The horn turns out to be magical and summons reptiles. The captured lizardfolk tells the students they were a hunting party heading for the mere. There is much debate on what to do with the lizardfolk, with the miller encouraging killing him. In the end, Barnaby kills him. They collect up the petrified wizard and the dead basilisk, borrow a team and wagon, and return to the Inn, and then to the Academy. The next day is the Festival, with the usual debauchery, fighting, and such going on for a day. Days later, the students are assigned to discover where a tribe of lizardfolk live which has suddenly begun raiding the thorps of the mere.

Mirtil 6-17, 1375: The students return to the thorp to discover fewer statues. Strangely, the wizard they saved doesn't seem interested in meeting with them. The students venture up the creek, encountering a dwarven paladin named Gimzor Orcslayer. He seems to take an immediate dislike to Matteo, leaving the students and warning them against trusting Matteo. The students venture upstream, seemingly mislead by Gimzor's tales of his exploration. They stumble upon a dryad and leave her frightened, but in peace. Eventually, they come to the source of the river, an underground stream that exits from the middle of a 30' bluff. Behind the waterfall is a cave. Ignacio and Matteo explore as Gimzor appears at the top of the bluff; the paladin suggesting parley. Ignacio and Matteo emerge invisibly and then Gimzor and Harold go in to talk with the lizardfolk the brothers discovered. The lizardfolk aren't of a mind to parley, calling the pair invaders. After almost getting swarmed by the lizardfolk, Harold and Gimzor escape. The students decide to return to the Academy to report, having completed what they were assigned to do. Upon reporting in, they plan to return to the Gnome Keep to explore more, taking the last week-and-a-half of the quarter off, and possibly the first two weeks of the next quarter.
