The sash windows were in a bad way and had to be fully stripped back, i.e. remove panes, break down into individual parts, strip paint, replace rotten parts, preserve, undercoat and then re-assemble - a big and slow job.
The green stuuf on this wall is Metalex - a timber preservative which was slapped onto everything.
Much of the wood was also coated in Timberloc - a wood hardner and antifungacide.
These walls and windows will be right for at least another 120 years.
We did this job in September, and it was getting down to -10oC at night. I was sleeping in there!
You can see us beginning to put the new support timbers (the lighter coloured wood) in now.
