Inside 15 Denbigh St
A lucky surprise...
What was a horrible 'Pinex' ceiling (above left) turned out to be a beautiful tongue and groove ceiling (above right). This is how I spent my Christmas.. The Pinex came off first followed by some wallpaper (left). There was scrim under the paper then a shower of black soot. Once revealed the ceiling needed loads of work. Firstly all the tacks and nails had to come out, the it had to be brushed and vacuumed, then it had have all of the gaps filled, and finally, and worst, it had to be sanded. There turned out to be a t&g ceiling in the two bedrooms and in the hall. Although they looked okay at a glance, only the hall ceiling merited a varnish, the other two, regrettably got a good coat of paint. One of the problems with a t&g ceiling is that dust falls through forever. To combat this I got into the loft (see below) and cleared all the loose fill out from between the joists, vacuumed the boards, lay building paper and relayed a good layer of insulation (or Pink Batts as the Kiwis call it). It was a shitty job.
Ceiling before - it was well worse than it looks here.
The Ceiling we found - before it was worked on - the final result will be posted in the "Completed" area of this site when I get round to being completed!
