Quickly, Lazarus Redux organizes a rescue attempt, entering the danger zone with the intent of finding those they can help as well as rescuing the trapped members of the Crucible who were still in the tower. The rescue attempt leads to the death of Craig Forest who heroically buys the rest of the crucible time to escape the surge of Spectres that have seemingly entered the world with the strange tower.

Among the rescue attempts, Matthew Alcome, an insomniac doctor discovers his own Projector capabilities and fights against Bishop's attempts to recruit him to face what is called the Grand Ma. Not believing that sacrificing life is the key to winning the battle against the looming threat, he joins Larazus in hopes of averting the coming disaster.

Finding a large number of strange, different ghosts who seem older than 3 years, the Crucible learn that the ghosts are spirits who have escaped with the tower and have come from an underworld unlike any they have ever heard of before. Guiding them to the Temple Vajrayana, the crucible set camp there and find an ally in the form of an old spirit calling herself Mother Mary whose strange abilities and Horrors buy the Crucible the needed edge to defend themselves against an attempt of the Spectres to reclaim the lost souls.

But it is clear to the Crucible now that things have taken a turn for the worse. And that there were many more layers of truth that they have long been blind to.
